    Katerina Dunne is the pen-name of Katerina Vavoulidou. Originally from Athens, Greece, Katerina has been living in Ireland since 1999. She has a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Athens, an MA in Film Studies from University College Dublin and an MPhil in Medieval History from Trinity College Dublin. While she used to write short stories for family and friends in her teenage years, she only took up writing seriously in 2016-17, when she started work on her first novel.

    Katerina’s day job is in financial services, but in her free time she enjoys reading historical fiction and watching historically-themed movies and TV series. She is passionate about history, especially medieval history, and her main area of interest is 13th to 15th century Hungary. Although the main characters of her stories are fictional, Katerina uses real events and personalities as part of her narrative in order to bring to life the fascinating history of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary, a location and time period not so well-known to English-speaking readers.

After having read the first book of the series, Lord of the Eyrie, I was impatient to take this book into my hands. It was worth the wait and I was not disappointed.

A woman fighting to clean her family’s name and to win back her rightful legacy in medieval times creates a perspective that more than just challenges the era’s customs and strict rules of female roles. Margit is a heroine the reader comes not only to love but also to respect and admire.

The authentic historical details, battle scenes and rich descriptions make this novel a gem for the history buff too, giving a peak into the life of a lesser-known, powerful and wealthy, and for the mainstream reader exotic medieval kingdom, Hungary, a bastion on the edge of Europe, defending Christian culture from the Osman threat.

Return to the Eyrie is a superb historical romance full of intrigue, surprising twists and immersive emotions that will sweep the reader along, and the pages will turn by themselves.

I read this book very quickly because I wanted to know what was going to happen the whole time. Katerina Dunn did not disappoint. I empathized with and cared about the characters, all lovable but realistic. Even the side characters were well drawn out and served the story beautifully. I loved the banter between the various characters. It was fun and witty.

There is a fresh, unexpected, and exciting mystery knight story arc which really paid off in a big way. I loved it so much. The story arc was powerful and I admit that I cried at the end. :)
