    Replaced a WD 1TB HD with the BX500 1TB SSD for a HP Pavilion 17 that was 9 yrs old (years ago, I increased its RAM to 12GB with Crucial chips). Planned on upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10. Drive was easy to physically install. Acronis cloning software did not work. Cloned SSD drive had boot errors, even after running HP BIOS boot repair analysis. Finally ran the Windows Recovery partition on the cloned SSD which reinstalled Windows 8.1. That worked...my personal files were intact on the cloned SSD. Upgraded to Windows 10 and re-installed apps. SSD runs great and fast...boot from shutdown takes about 30 seconds and saving an extremely large data base file dropped from 35 seconds to 3 seconds. Very happy with purchase and value. Would buy again...I've always had success with Crucial's products.

    This is the fifth time I have installed a Crucial SSD, this time in my custom desktop computer. My C drive was already an SSD, but the D drive was my original hard disk. Crucial has an excellent program for evaluating your computer up front and letting you know which Crucial SSD (or RAM) part numbers would be compatible with your unit. The data transfer took 4 hours + ... longer than in previous SSD installs, but I just left it running over night. The end result of that data transfer was an SSD that was an exact clone of the hard disk. After physically removing the hard disk and installing the SSD, the system came up almost perfect. All I had to do was to bring up the Computer Management app and identify the new SSD as the D drive. Computer operation is fully normal now and noticeably snappier.

    I swapped out a 2.5 HDD from an external backup G-TECHNOLOGY G-DRIVE THUNDERBOLT USB 3.0 1TB. It was pretty easy to do, although you need some basic tools and some skills. It took about 5 minutes to swap the drives. A full backup took about an hour over the Thunderbolt connection. Transfer of a 400mb video from the drive back top the desktop was almost instantaneous! I am thrilled with this little guy. A way huge upgrade from HDD.

    This is an inexpensive SSD drive that will dramatically increase the performance of an older laptop. A perfect upgrade for a casual PC user.

    However the BX series is a value oriented SSD, and is not the best choice for users who do heavy write activity like video production, some games, large databases or backup storage. For applications that involve a lot of disk write activity or for users who want a little better performance and possibly longevity the MX series is probably the superior choice.

    The crucial BX series is a significant performance upgrade from a traditional hard disk, and will provide a noticeable speed benefit for an older laptop. You'll also get silent operation, and a little longer battery life.
