A great replacement for Apple Watch
    5 out of 5 stars
A great replacement for Apple Watch
First and foremost, I use iPhone and I own a Apple Watch Series 3. Therefore, any smart watch I look at must compare to that combination. I also think that Apple Watches are ridiculously over priced for the functionality they provide. Next, the battery life for a $400+ Apple Watch should be more than 24 hours - I think it is criminal that Apple cannot conceive of a design and OS that can make the battery in a 44mm watch last longer than one day! My "smartwatch" journey actually began with Fitbits several years ago. But there was always connectivity or sync issues between the Fitbit and iPhones. My wife still wears a Fitbit, but she still has connectivity issues - even with the latest version of Fitbits. I also tried the Samsung, Garmin, and others - and again similar situation. Connectivity issues, especially with the Samsung, that would cause the watch to forget it is attached to my iPhone. This was especially true when I would leave my cell behind to run to the mailbox and when I got back I would have to re-setup the watch to my iPhone. I also did not want to pay another $200+ for a watch, I wanted something cheaper. So my requirements for this watch looked like this:- Less than $200- Designed for the outdoors (walk, run, hiking, swimming, etc)- Integrates well with iPhone- Get all notifications consistently- Do not need to make or answer calls on my watch- Do not need to make text responses on my watch (my responses are usually more than three letters or an emoji)- Battery life longer than 24 hours.Seems pretty straight forward, but Fitbit, Samsung, Garmin have all failed miserably at this simple list of requirements. I found the Amazfit T-Rex last year and my initial thought was it was a cheap Garmin knockoff that will not perform any where near as good. For me, nothing could be further from the truth. I got this a few days ago as a present, because I refused to spend the $130 on something I was convinced was a waste, even though it had some really strong reviews on Amazon and on the web. Here are my impressions of the watch thus far:Initial Day:The box the watch came in made me feel as if I had bought an Apple Watch - it was that good. Well organized and familiar. The watch reported a 61% charge on it when I took it out of the box - so I began the setup. The QR Code setup was both fast and easy with the iPhone. I had already downloaded the Zepp app from iTunes so my iPhone was ready. As with most electronics, the watch spent the first hour or so downloading and installing updates and other things - again, zero effort on my part. The usual questions about allowing location services, integration with Apple Health, etc. were next. Then the watch was ready to go! I played with the watch and the app for the next few hours. I will say that the software is not the most intuitive design. I found settings, then wanted to go back and forgot where they were and couldn't figure out how I had gotten to them in the first place. That for me is the biggest complaint about the watch so far... and that is pretty good considering everything else. The watch was down to 54% by the time I had stopped playing with it, so I decided to put it on the charger and see how quickly it charged. It went from 54% to 92% in under an hour.First Full Day:So the next day was going to be the first full day test. It starts with the sleep function, When I went to bed the watch was at 87%, when I woke up - it was still at 87%. I then went for my morning walk and used the walking feature to monitor it. The watch did fantastic! Did everything I expected and when I got home to review the walk in the app, I was extremely happy with the reporting. The app excelled in this area, its UI reminded me of the Garmin. Tracking my pace every inch of the way. Heartrate, distance, direction, everything you could want - it was awesome. This is where it basically left the Apple Watch behind. Next, notifications - this was an area of particular concern for me because this is where non-Apple products tend to fail. I got every single notification, phone, text, email, apps - everything. Never missed a beat. After a full day of pings from email, calendar, etc. my battery had dropped to 84%. I had lost only 3% battery in a full day. If this was my Apple Watch, it would be on the charger right now. Based on just this alone, I calculated that I should get about 34 days out of a single charge - AMAZING!!! I will continue to test the watch and update to see if my prediction holds true, but so far this has been the best "smartwatch" I have ever owned.UPDATE #1Ok, now I have own the watch for over a week. The honeymoon phase is over and I have tested in various scenarios to see what the implications.- Always OnLike all watches of this type there is a "Always On" option. However, I found this one to be disappointing. The watch face is not the primary - it seems to be a watch face just for always on, which I do not like. I want it on all the time with the watch face I have set, not showing something else. So for me this is not as good as my Apple Series 3.- Wrist Lift ActivationAgain, like "Always On" - there is an option that as you lift your wrist, it activates the watch. This works, but not as expected. On my Apple watch it worked, but sometimes required a double lift to make it activate. The T-Rex is super sensitive, even for normal settings. As I drive and I turn the wheel, it activates; if I watch briskly, it activates. So it is a bit too sensitive and with that comes battery drain. Based on the usage in the first few days I expected a 20+ day battery capacity. This feature on normal setting knocks it down by half - so now 10+ days. Which is still huge in comparison to Apple. But something to consider if the longest battery life is a goal for you.- NotificationsThis was an area of huge concern for me considering this is not Apple or Android based watch. I am happy to report that all the notifications work the way i want.- FunctionalityI am still extremely pleased with the functionality of the watch. I believe you will see several pros/cons on the accuracy of things (like sleep, hear rate, etc.). I have found that it is good, but not the most precise device in the world. If precession is your focus, then you should not have an expectation of spending less than $200 for it. For this watch I am going for the 90/10 rule - being that its 90%+ accurate; and for me it has been 90% accurate for all the things I have been looking for: sleep, heart rate, pace (walking/running), activity level).- Software / UII am still find this to be a quirky and somewhat confusing. I think there are several opportunities to improve, and as they sell more products, I think this should improve - or it better! :)So overall I would give this a product a 4.5 out of 5 due to the software/UI issues. The watch itself performs as advertised and meets all my needs.

I love wearing time pieces as an accessory to my wardrobe and lifestyle. I wanted to get a smart watch that was both stylish, not too expensive, and sporty to replace my beat up $40 Casio Sport watch. I wanted to get something rugged yet stylish, I originally was going to buy a Nixon Regulus watch, but stumbling thru Amazon I found the AmazFit T-Rex on sale for the same price and decided to Do some research before buying it. This watch is a great first smart watch to get if you’re getting into sport smart watches. Yes there are more expensive watches like the Apple/ Android Watches with voice messaging, quick reply, NFC, and Garmin Watches with 3-axis GPS. Now for what the AmazFit T-Rex lacks in features, it makes up in durability, battery life, quality, minimalism, and affordability. I can wear my watch for more then a week and some days before I have the need to charge it. Depends on how much you use it. I never have power saving on, only auto brightness. Even still, it beats having to charge my watch every night like all the expensive watches. I definitely didn’t want to spend over $200 for a watch that would not meet my lifestyle. My lifestyle is pretty simple, I bike often, I play baseball/ sports sometimes, I take small hikes, and go out casually with friends. This watch has gotten some of the best video reviews on YouTube and on Amazon so it became a reason to buy the watch. I’ve seen video of this being frozen in ice, used swimming, dropped, and hit and it would still work! It’s tested to last. The watch leaves out the hastle of wasting time pulling out my IPhone 7 Plus all the time. I’m always pulling out my phone to check if I have messages. I’ve been wanting to stop the habit of being on my phone a lot, and so the watch actually helps me because I see the notifications on the watch and decide if Its important or not. I can also change music tracks rather than having to pull out my phone when biking, working out. Unfortunately you cannot track/record your activities and change music at the same time. Maybe there will be an update, but it’s not the worst thing. The watch allows me to track, monitor, and locate my activities with the preset functions. Interface is easy to use, and the buttons help navigate with easy, with little to no lag when using it, depending on your carrier, (mine sucks). I definitely recommend getting this watch as it’s dropping in price right now. If they release a new model, I will definitely be getting it because this product is worth it and Im liking the compliments and use out of the watch. I currently have the olive green version because my previous watch was black. The color is nice and tactical, but clean enough to wear if going out. For what I need, this watch is a perfect time piece. I don’t feel like I’m getting pulled out of where I am and being distracted by notifications on my watch, and I don’t have to worry if I abuse the watch.

Amazon fitness T. rex 1st Gen.

Im a very seasoned fitness watch wearer.

I’ve used Apple Watches.Fitbits. off brands and now Amazon’s Fitness T-Rex 1st gen.

I’m not easy on my Watches. I wear them everyday for whatever I’m doing. And they go into a 160 Degree sauna 4 times a week.

I’ve we broken 3 fitbits now so trying something new. Nothings wrong with my Apple Watch other then it’s battery life is complete trash.

For me a fitness Watch most important features are.

    Heart rate Sensor/ Heart sensors
    Sleep tracking/Good App.
    Battery life.
    Step GPS tracking
    Robust. (Doesn’t break easily)

Everything else is kinda just a perk.

    The Amazon fit
1# Heart rate sensor. I seen a lot of people stating that the Heart rate sensor doesn’t work. That’s untrue. It works fine just requires steadiness to get an accurate reading.

To get an accurate reading it requires you to hold your arm steady for about 30- 60 seconds.

It will still work without you doing this. It just goes in and out of accuracy. Kinda more of a snap shot.

Fit bit and Apple Watch both take a second to lock onto an accurate reading especially mid workout. So it’s not uncommon. But I will say the Amazon fit Watch takes a bit longer. You have to be steady and its a bit more finicky. So it’s a bit more effort but it does work. Hopefully newer models upgraded this sensor. All in all holding my arm steady for 30 seconds to check my heart rate isn’t that big of deal to me.

    2# Battery Life. (Amazing!!!)

I charged this Watch to 100% on 10/13 & it didn’t die until 11/05 at 8pm is lasted me 24 days! By far the best battery life I’ve ever experienced. I left the screen brightness at the default settings. But I didn’t hold back at all in my watch usage. I checked my heart rate during workouts. I used the flash light. Phone finder. Checked my text. Sleep tracking. Only thing I didn’t use much was the workout mode. Maybe 6 times.I just didn’t need it on constantly. Id prefer to just check my rate when I needed to. Other then keeping the Watch on constantly. It Just depends on the workout I’m doing mainly. Def worth it on battery life alone.

    #3 sleep tracking/App.
The App is pretty much a mirror a Fitbit.
Can’t really tell the difference at all. They both work fantastic.

#4 step tracking. Now I’m mainly run on the treadmill. But every time I put it into running mode it always had an accurate count that matched my Miles in my treadmill. So no complaints.

    #5bonus features.
The Buttons! The buttons! the buttons! Life saver when your working out and sweaty. Makes it super easy to navigate the Watch. Way better then the fit bit.
    Messages.
The screen is big. The text are super easy to read!
    Flash light.
Didn’t know I would need this but ended up using it a bit!
    Weather.
Its a lazy feature but instead of looking at the app on my phone the temperature for the day display on the watch.
    Find my phone.
Okay I lose my phone more then I’d like to admit this feature when it works. It amazing. It doesn’t work every time tho.

I’ve broken afew watches and they aren’t cheap! So I was hesitant on getting the newer models if I didn’t like this one. But if I could go back I’d get the newest model.

Very nice watch. The band has a little flex and is very comfortable. The watch seems very sturdy. Screen doesn’t smudge and seems very robust. Very attractive watch. Screen faces are very clear and look nice. Wish there were a few more options. The watch connection to bluetooth on the iphone can be a little glitchy and slow at times. BUT I have had the same problem with fitbits and Garmins. The watch corrects itself quicker than Garmin or fitbit though. The hardware seems top-notch. The software needs a little improving. That’s why it is a 4-star review. They have some kinks to work out but only very minor. And the sleep tracking seems to be the only thing that sometimes is not accurate. For instance it has a hard time calculating REM. I wear a whoop strap as well and the sleep data needs cleaned up on the t-rex. But the GPS and heart rate data are pretty spot on when compared to Whoop and Garmin. I am very particular and I would say I am very happy with this purchase. 1/3 the price of similar smart watches with equivalent performance and probably better hardware.
