BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dedicated to environmental leadership, the Alberta Recycling Management Authority Board of Directors is a skills-based governance board that contributes its expertise to guide the organization.

The Board is comprised of nine members who are nominated through a nominating committee, which independently recruits eligible, non-conflicted and highly skilled individuals. Through this nominating process, individuals are run through a Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria and a Skills Matrix for evaluation and conflict of interest checks. One non-voting director serves as the Board liaison with the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas.

Brad Pickering is a retired Government of Alberta Deputy Minister, having served 17 years in various senior leadership roles as Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs, Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Environmental Monitoring and Reporting Agency, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Deputy Solicitor General/Deputy Minister Public Security, and Deputy Minister of Sustainable Resource Development.

He also served on a number of Boards during his tenure with the Government of Alberta including Travel Alberta, Alberta Capital Finance Authority, and the Alberta Bio Diversity Monitoring Institute. Prior to joining the Government of Alberta, Brad spent 20 years in the municipal government sector.

Brad lives in Sherwood Park. He and his wife Ronda have two children and three grandchildren. He enjoys camping, is an avid golfer and enjoys playing pickleball.

Liz Anderson - ARMA Board of Directors

Lis Anderson

Lis is currently the Chief Procurement Officer at the Provincial Health Services Authority for the province of BC. She has worked in Supply Chain for her entire career expanding 30+ years. In addition, Lis has held several BOD Director roles for not-for-profits over the last 10 years. These include Supply Chain Management AB Institute, Supply Chain Canada National Board, Alberta Recycling Management Authority and Stewardship Commission of the District of North Saanich. Lis also holds a Supply Chain Management Designation, a BCom and an MBA and has been recognized as one of Canada’s most influential women in Supply Chain (1999) and one of BC top 500 leaders (2021). She resides in North Saanich most of the time.

Jim Boucher - ARMA Board of Directors

Chief Jim Boucher

Chief Boucher is the president of the Saa Dene Group of Companies and the former long-standing elected Chief of the Fort McKay First Nation, one of the most successful First Nations in Canada.

He is known for his visionary, consensus-based leadership, built upon a foundation of trust and collaboration, with the transaction serving as a model for how Indigenous groups, energy development companies and governments can work together to achieve mutual long-term benefit—hallmarks of Jim’s business style.

Chief Boucher has received more than a dozen notable awards and accolades throughout his career, such as the Alberta Order of Excellence, Energy Person of the Year, named one of “The Power 50”—The 50 Most Influential Canadian Business Leaders—and received the Commendation from the Governor General for Outstanding Service. Jim also received the Aboriginal Business Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, and Indspire (formerly National Aboriginal Achievement) Award – Business and Commerce.

Chief Boucher lives in Fort McKay and has two children and five grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid golfer.

Lisa Doig - ARMA Board of Directors

Lisa Doig

Lisa Doig is the founder and managing director of O’Doig Consulting, through which she works with companies to develop and commercialize technology and clean energy projects. Lisa is a licensed professional engineer in Alberta. She rounds out her technical experience with a Masters of Business Administration from the Ivey School of Business.

Lisa is active with a number of non-profit boards and technical associations. She was most recently the President and Board Chair of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. Previously she has served as a Director of Engineers Canada including Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. She has spent her career working to increase the representation of women within engineering and other STEM fields.

Lisa brings this passion for innovation, experience across many industries and board know-how to the Board.

Janice Harrington - ARMA Board of Directors

JaNICE HARRINGTON

Janice Harrington is the Chief Operating Officer for Alberta’s real estate regulator, the Real Estate Council of Alberta.

Janice is a passionate, respected and results-driven leader with over two decades of experience influencing positive public policy change in the corporate, political and not-for-profit sectors.

With an extensive background in leading complex organizations through rapid transformation and change, Janice has experience with extended producer responsibility systems as a previous member of the boards of the Alberta Beverage Recycling Council, Encorp Pacific and the Beverage Container Management Board.  

Janice is an avid volunteer and community builder with a passion for sustainability. She sits on a number of volunteer boards representing the arts, social services and environmental organizations. She is the recipient of two Premier’s Awards of Excellence, as well as a Consumer Champion Award and a Corporate Social Responsibility Award for a financial literacy education program for high schools.

Janice is the mom of two and lives in Airdrie. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, gardening and fitness.

Mick Howden - ARMA Board of Directors

Mick Howden

Mick Howden, CPA, CMA, has worked primarily in the consulting engineering and construction sectors, gaining broad experience in national & international operations. He has extensive experience in the planning and implementation of business acquisitions and mergers, complex ERP system implementations, and corporate reorganizations.

Mick has always kept very involved in corporate, community, and not-for-profit Boards, Councils and Committees, serving as a Director and/or member of the Executive of such organizations.

In addition to various consulting assignments, Mick is currently involved in supporting the community, provincial government council assignments, and crown corporation board memberships, including the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation – Board Member, and Audit Committee member; member of the Government of Alberta’s, Internal Audit Committee; Alberta Veterinary Medical Association – Board Member, and Audit Committee Member; Calgary Stampede, Western Performance Horse Committee – Chair.

Mick and his wife live on their acreage at Priddis, west of Calgary, and he is an avid team roper. They have two sons and three grandchildren.

Dave Schaff - ARMA Board of Directors

Dave Schaaf

David Schaaf has recently retired from the position of Waste & Recycling Services Manager for the City of Lethbridge. He held this position from 2003 to 2018. He had been with the City of Lethbridge since 1991, working in a variety of areas including Fleet management, Facility management, and Information technology.

Dave graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. His work experience involved working as a design engineer within the agriculture manufacturing sector prior to employment with the City of Lethbridge. Responsibilities as the Waste & Recycling Manager included: the delivery of waste prevention programs, commercial & residential recycling programs, commercial & residential waste collection programs, and management of the Waste & Recycling Centre.

Ian Young- ARMA Board of Directors

Ian Young

Ian Young is a professional technologist with over twenty years of experience in the environmental consulting industry. During this time, he has become an accomplished project coordinator and manager in the assessment, investigation, remediation and reclamation of a varied portfolio of green and brownfield sites across the western provinces and Northwest Territories.

Ian works at SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd. as the Technical Discipline Manager for the Alberta Land Quality & Remediation Team and Edmonton Office Manager. Responsibilities include financial performance, recruitment and retention, training, coaching, health and safety leadership and collaboration with SLR’s business sector leaders.
