Dec 13, 2016 at 18:52 comment added Logan R. Kearsley A similar situation occurs in The Mote in God's Eye, in which it is deduced that the Mote must harbor an alien civilization because it had turned green for a while, as a result of turning on the launching equipment for a laser-sail starship.

Dec 13, 2016 at 5:44 comment added Zxyrra Interesting scenario in the second half - consider also violet (I may do a follow-up question on violet stars) or a spectral emission that wouldn't occur naturally (lines in the wrong places, etc). I digress.
