Romans made heavy use of this tactic, as well as the Spanish (Spanish Jinete was the term I believe) made use of this tactic. Same idea, hover around your enemy but don't fully engage. Arrows allow for a larger amount of ammunition to be carried, however the javelin could be used as a spear giving them a fall back option if they got caught in hand to hand combat. all trade-offs. | |
