    $\begingroup$ @TrEs-2b - oh yes most definitely. Romans made heavy use of this tactic, as well as the Spanish (Spanish Jinete was the term I believe) made use of this tactic. Same idea, hover around your enemy but don't fully engage. Arrows allow for a larger amount of ammunition to be carried, however the javelin could be used as a spear giving them a fall back option if they got caught in hand to hand combat. all trade-offs. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ Related here: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/questions/6731/… I'd imagine your opponent could come up with some interesting tactics to try to spook the ostriches as I'm thinking they wouldn't be the most disciplined and probably hold irregular formations at best $\endgroup$
