    $\begingroup$ Along those lines, while you can't influence people with magic, surely a clever person could find some way to use it to assassinate people. (e.g. with a physical effect on an object.) If learning how to use magic (even basic magic like lighting a candle) increases your perception of magic use, it would be very useful to know that, say, the peace treaty you're being handed has a "stop heart" spell cast upon it. $\endgroup$
