11$\begingroup$ @spark Bears will even eat each other when they're hungry, I doubt domestication would stop them eating us. Ultimately they'll remain bears. $\endgroup$– SeparatrixCommented Mar 21, 2016 at 12:10

48$\begingroup$ @spark The argument here is that the exact trait that makes them desirable mounts (their ferocity in battle) makes them undesirable mounts (unless you breed that ferocity out, they'll be a liability). I would agree with that argument. $\endgroup$– CronaxCommented Mar 21, 2016 at 13:16

22$\begingroup$ @fgysin dogs are pack animals, bears are not. It's a very important distinction that I explicitly made. $\endgroup$– SeparatrixCommented Mar 21, 2016 at 13:55

8$\begingroup$ and the reason that is important is pack animals view pack members as family and (usually) won't turn on each other even when starving. Bears are loners and have no such inhibitions. $\endgroup$– Jim2BCommented Mar 21, 2016 at 15:45

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. science-based), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
