    $\begingroup$ I would like to mention that using elephants as cavalry was anything but common. Only really sophisticated and complex societies were able to sustain War Elephants. $\endgroup$

    $\begingroup$ @Ronk They aren't, actually; they're in the Ursidae family. They do share the Caniformia suborder with the Canidae family, which is perhaps what you were thinking of, but so does a walrus, so calling them "canine" based on that is a bit of a stretch. $\endgroup$
