  • $\begingroup$ I've seen the same figures for Roman cavalry units. I've also have seen mentioned they only actually traveled about 5 to 6 hours a day. Breaking camp/packing up gear, unpacking gear/setting up/fortifying the next camp, cooking meals. All of that together seems to have taking more time than actually traveling. And on regular (peace-time) travel they only did all of this in daylight. $\endgroup$
