$\begingroup$ @RobWatts, Maybe, yea. I think you have the right idea. That's how the Descolata virus works in Speaker For the Dead. I was actually thinking of having it splay out the genome in a relatively large space and setting a bunch of viruses free to match some chunk of it, using massively parallel chemical processing. $\endgroup$
