Alcubierre Drive

The only FTL system theorized with any real world evidence that it could actually be doable is the Alcubierre Drive. Using the Alcubierre metric, it has been mathematically demonstrated that the existence of negative energy might potentially lead to the existence of a faster than light engine via perpetual acceleration.

Last year, DARPA-funded research into Casimir cavities demonstrated that negative vacuum energies can be created. While the technology does not exist to do this in a way that we could make an FTL engine, the math and experimental data around Alcubierre metrics say that it is at least theoretically possibleprobably doable which is more than can be said for other FTL methods.
