Plants that emit smells that animals avoid can be arranged, there are people irl who use fences of thorn bushes to keep predators away as well. Ultimately the animal is after food, and easy food if possible. If you make it no longer considered easy to obtain, and that even when they do it's not even considered food to them, they'll find somewhere else to find an easy meal.
Mar 16, 2022 at 20:04 comment added Nosajimiki Hmmm... it occurs to me that cats and dogs don't stomach certain human foods very well. Onions, garlic, chives, and coffee are all somewhat toxic to them; so, certain choices of seasoning could be used to intentionally taint your leftovers.
