  • $\begingroup$ The ancient sources say absolutely nothing about the numbers of elephants that might have died crossing the Alps. Since real elephants are very surefooted, the idea that any elephants died crossing the Alps using paths broad enough for tens of thousands of men, horses, and other animals is just an assumption. $\endgroup$ Commented Oct 20, 2018 at 17:06
