$\begingroup$ Though perhaps the lack of trees on the Aukland Islands is due more to the ocean winds and/or and the distance from any source of seeds. One tree seems to have survived quite well there: ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/0218/… Note that Alaska starts at 54° 40' N, and has much forested area. $\endgroup$
