Dave and Amy Freeman

Dave and Amy Freeman run the Wilderness Classroom and are dedicated to introducing kids to some of the world’s wildest places through virtual school assemblies and online expeditions. They were named Adventurers of the Year by National Geographic for their pioneering work in 2014.

Over the last two decades they have traveled over 50,000 miles by kayak, canoe, sailboat and dogsled through some of the world’s wildest places, from the Amazon to the Arctic. They have crossed North and South America under their own power, circumnavigated Lake Superior by kayak and completed many other challenging wilderness treks. They work with tens of thousands of elementary and middle school students from across the US and around the globe each year through fun and engaging virtual assemblies that introduce students to some of the world’s wildest place and spark their passion for nature and exploration.

The Freemans are also the authors of A Year in the Wilderness: Bearing Witness in the Boundary Waters, an award winning book about the year they spent in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in partnership with the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters.
