Early Life

Mark Anthony Martin was born January 9, 1959, in Batesville, Arkansas, and he began racing on dirt tracks around his hometown.

Later, Martin joined the ASA racing series, going on to win 22 ASA races and four championships in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1986.

While little else is known about his childhood, it is obvious that racing is something he has been passionate about for a long time.

It also seems that his parents supported his dreams, as when he started racing officially in 1974, he did so in a car that was built and sponsored by his father.

After making a name for himself in the ASA, Martin joined NASCAR in 1981, though his start was anything but smooth.

Career

From 1981 to 1987, Mark Martin drove for six different teams, and while he earned a few pole positions, the first team he was with, owned by Bud Reeder, had trouble clinching titles.

Despite this, Martin was able to persevere, and by 1988, he joined Roush Racing and started picking up steam, winning his first Winston Cup race in 1989.

Martin entered the 1990s with a winning streak, earning the IROC title in 1994, 1996, 1997, and 1998.

He also won the Winston 500 twice, in 1995 and 1997, followed by the Bud Shootout in 1999.

In 1998 especially, Martin experienced a fantastic year, with seven wins, 22 top fives, and 26 top 10s.

With Roush racing, Martin was about to win 35 career NASCAR Cup Series races, and while he decided to cut back on full-time racing in the series in 2005, he finished out the season, dubbing it the “Salute to your” tour.

Martin joined Ginn Racing in 2007 and finished second at the Daytona 500, only 0.020 seconds behind Kevin Harvick.

The same year Martin chose not to compete in the Food City 500, becoming the first points leader since Cale Yarborough to sit out a race.

Following that season, Martin joined Dale Earnhardt, Inc after it bought out Ginn Racing, but left in 2009 to compete for Hendrick Motorsports, becoming the fourth driver to win a Cup race after turning 50.

Martin continued racing for Hendrick until 2012 when he moved to Michael Waltrip Racing, and the next year he finished third at the Daytona 500.

In 2013 Martin raced for Stewart-Haas Racing, but after a shakey first season, Martin announced he wouldn’t compete in 2014, though he didn’t officially announce his retirement until February 2015.

Introduction

Andre Drummond is an American professional NBA player for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Drummond was selected by the Pistons in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft with the ninth overall pick. A two-time NBA All-Star, he has led the league in rebounding three times and has been named to the All-NBA Third Team.

As of July 2024, Andre Drummond’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $40 Million.

Early Life

Andre Jamal Drummond was born on the 10th of August, 1993, in Mount Vernon, New York.

He attended Woodrow Wilson Middle School before starting high school at Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut.

Drummond averaged 12.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 blocks per game during his freshman year. He improved during his sophomore year at Capital Prep, averaging 20.2 points, 16.6 rebounds, 7.2 blocks, and 4.5 steals per game.

Career

American basketball player Andre Drummond is most well-known for his selection by the Chicago Bulls and his exploits at the Detroit Pistons.

Drummond was selected to Detroit’s NBA All-Rookie second team, making him among the best basketball players in the 2011 high school class.

Several scouts, including LeBron James, took notice of his dominant performances in the NBA, especially his defensive and rebounding abilities.

Drummond’s Basketball Journey Begins

He participated in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship with Bradley Beal and helped the United States capture the gold medal.

Andre surprised John Calipari, who assumed he would coach him, by deciding to attend the University of Connecticut instead of Kentucky, sparking a media frenzy.

In his first game back at college, he impressed Ray Allen, a former UConn player, by scoring a career-high 24 points against Holy Cross. After one season at UConn, he entered the 2012 NBA Draft, and with the help of Kemba Walker, the Detroit Pistons selected him.

Drummond debuted with the Detroit Pistons on October 31, 2012. The following year, Drummond and fellow rookie Damian Lillard celebrated a career turning point when they were named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

Soon after, he scored 30 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in the 2014 Rising Stars Challenge, which Shaquille O’Neal praised.

Battling LaVine In Dunk Contest

Drummond was selected as the Rising Stars Challenge MVP as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend, further enhancing his already thriving career.

In 2014, Anthony Davis was impressed with Andre’s performance against the Pelicans when he scored 20 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. He then defeated the Miami Heat with a then-career-high 32 points, and Kobe Bryant congratulated him on being selected as an NBA All-Star in 2016.

That year, he participated in the 2016 NBA Slam Dunk Contest with Zach LaVine, who won and successfully defended his title from the previous year.

Despite losing the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, he set an NBA record by missing 23 free throws in a game, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record.

After Drummond re-signed with the Pistons on a five-year, $130 million contract, he became the second-youngest player to surpass 4,000 rebounds, behind Kevin Durant.

Joining The Bulls And Breaking Records

He was named a replacement in the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, replacing John Wall, and exceeded Bill Laimbeer’s record for offensive rebounds in 2019.

While achieving a 32-point, 23-rebound game in the 2019 opener, Drummond was traded to the Cavaliers in February 2020, joining Kevin Love.

The following year, he reached a buyout agreement with the Cavaliers, which led to free-agent interest from LeBron James. He signed with the Lakers in 2021.

That year, he signed with the 79ers, playing alongside Joel Embiid, but was traded to the Nets in 2022 in a deal involving James Harden.

After joining the Bulls in 2022, he achieved unprecedented success. In November 2023, he tied Tim Duncan’s record with his 10,000th career rebound.

Favorite Quotes from Andre Drummond

“That’s the way he plays. There are no hard feelings. It’s like playing with your best friend. You can talk if you want. It doesn’t mean you mean it.” – Andre Drummond

“Well, you know for me, I don’t really get into that stuff. That’s more front office deals and what they take care of. My job is to just focus on basketball, and you know, I don’t really get a chance to really pick and choose who I play with. So I’m just excited to play with the guys who I have now, and I’m very content with the players that I have too.” – Andre Drummond

“Definitely Nate Nixen. He’s one of them that I really enjoy listening to. He has a lot of great stuff. I’d go with Rico Will, Peezy, my uncle Trick Trick. Snap Dogg is one of my favorite rappers out here, too.” – Andre Drummond

“Yeah. Slowly but surely, I’ve been putting stuff on my SoundCloud page. I don’t want to put too much stuff out yet. Obviously, I still play basketball. So I don’t want people to get it twisted and think that I’m more focused on music than I am on basketball.” – Andre Drummond

“It’s every kid’s dream to play with the best player in the world. … This is an incredible time in my career to play with LeBron James instead of against him … Hopefully, things go the right way, and we’ll try to run it back again.” – Andre Drummond

“Yeah, just how tough he was. He played strong and hard every night, and I would not want to play against him during his prime. He was elbowing people in their chest. He’s not about to violate me, bro. I’m gonna fight. We gotta fight, bro. He was disrespectful, and he dumped on people.” – Andre Drummond
