Early Life

A second-generation Korean American, Joseph Hahn, is the youngest of three children born in Dallas, Texas.

In 1995, Hahn graduated from Herbert Hoover High School and went on to study at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, although he did not graduate.

However, despite not finishing his art degree, his time at this college allowed him to meet his future bandmate Mike Shinoda who convinced him to join the band Xero, which would ultimately evolve to become Linkin Park.

Career

Joe Hahn began DJing in high school, and when he met bandmate Mike Shinoda, he put his skills to work for the band Xero.

When the band formed, they released their first self-titled demo album in 1997 but later changed their name to Hybrid Theory when working on an EP of the same name, though they ended up settling on the name Linkin Park during recording sessions.

While members of Linkin Park, Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda guested on the single “It’s Goin’ Down” by the X-Ecutioners.

As their popularity rose, Shinoda became known as one of the greatest white rappers in the world, while Hahn received praise for his incredible DJ skills, which he also showed off on Shinoda’s Fort Minor debut album.

Along with being the primary DJ for Linkin Park, Joe Hahn’s net worth was increased as he directed numerous music videos for the band.

Most recently, he earned a hefty salary serving as a judge on the South Korean talent show Superband, though the show wasn’t renewed for another season.

While Linkin Park has been on hiatus since Chester Bennington’s death in 2017, Hahn and Shinoda are open to reuniting eventually, even releasing a remix of “One Step Closer” in 2021.

If the band ever does get back together, it’s likely that they will sell out venues quickly, giving Hahn’s net worth an even greater boost.

Favorite Joe Hahn Quotes

Joe Hahn is extremely multi-faceted, and his broad range of skills has given him valuable insight.

Because of this, he has a lot of wise words to offer anyone looking to succeed.

Here are our favorite quotes from Joe Hahn:

  • “I think most people don’t exactly know what they’re doing, 100%, but they portray themselves as if they do.” Joe Hahn
  • “The best thing that I can offer to people is just to be honest, and that’s a rare quality. In doing so, I think there’s always a top down feeling that permeates a working environment. If the boss is cool and he’s a certain way that’s not bullshitting, then everyone around is going to feel that comfort and try to be that way, as well. That’s just who I strive to be, as a person.” Joe Hahn
  • “With directing, you have to know what you’re doing, but you have to actually be able to control what’s going on.” Joe Hahn
  • “I love collaboration. I love working with people to come up with something better than what I initially thought. With directing, you have to be controlling in a lot of ways, but I find myself trying to battle against that, to not be controlling, because that’s when great things can come about, beyond how great you think you can be.” Joe Hahn
  • “Making movies is like a circus. You get together for a finite amount of time and you build the most extravagant thing you can, which requires teamwork. Most people don’t know, but when you see something on screen, it looks perfect. If you go behind the scenes, things are very archaic. You only see the front of the building, not the back.” Joe Hahn

Favorite Quotes from Afrojack

“I think the most important thing about dance music is the connection. If you put 80,000 people together, no one knows each other, and once the music starts, everyone loves each other. That doesn’t happen with a lot of genres. If you go to a hip-hop club, it’s not like when one song comes on that everyone suddenly loves each other.” – Afrojack

“My debut album, ‘Forget the World,’ is all about not listening to the negativity around you and to continue to do what you love, no matter what people think. I love what I do. Dance music is my passion, my life. There is no greater feeling than being one with my fans, partying to the music we love.” – Afrojack

“I was in school – I was a good learner; if I wanted to get something done, I could get it done. I was lazy, though. I was always, like, sort of an outcast. And when I got home, I was always doing music, but when I was doing music, no one was there to judge it, you know? It was just me in my bedroom. It gave me freedom and made me happy.” – Afrojack

“When I was a baby, my mom used to have a dance school, and she used to teach classes there. We didn’t have money for a babysitter, so she always brought me with her to the dancing school. Back then, I was already watching and listening to Michael Jackson for a long time.” – Afrojack

“One of the reasons why my album is called ‘Forget the World’ is because when you listen to the world, you make stupid mistakes.” – Afrojack

Favorite Quotes From Mike Williams’

“It was very hard for me to keep it a secret! I couldn’t tell anyone that Sweet & Sour was my track, and I received a lot of questions about it. Even when I did a seminar during Dancefair, people were asking if I was the artist behind the track and it was very hard to give the right answer in front of all those people.” – Mike Williams

“I’ve been producing and DJ’ing for a long time and of course it was amazing when Spinnin’ approached me. Before I created ‘Sweet & Sour’, I worked a lot in the studio to improve my skills.” – Mike Williams

“I started by creating a drop. I used to start my projects with the break and work towards the drop but the drop was always disappointing then. Now when I start with the drop it all gets much easier. ‘Sweet & Sour’ was a project I finished relatively quickly. I had an idea in my mind for the drop: an easy melody that would get stuck in your head combined with a cool bassline.” – Mike Williams

“Took me a couple of years to find out what my style was. I’m not intending to do everything in that style, it’s just the way I produce and mix my tracks that makes it sound like me. That’s what makes it unique I guess!” – Mike Williams

“It was amazing and I learned a lot from working with those legends. Every one of them gave me good advice and helped me further and further! Also, it’s an amazing feeling when they pull me onstage during their sets.” – Mike Williams

His message in the documentary has always been his motto in life, “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.”

Teaming Up With Chris Jones

Meanwhile, Hardwell collaborated with Tiësto on a back-to-back set at Tomorrowland, which got more than 6 million views on YouTube.

At the same time, he released a new song from his studio album, “Young Again,” which featured Chris Jones on vocals.

Following the release of “I Am Hardwell – United We Are” world tour, he joined forces with Armin Van Buuren at the “Ultra Music Festival” in 2015.
