He attended Chaminade College Preparatory School in his hometown, where he was rated a five-star recruit and regarded as one of the top players in the Class of 2016 by recruiting services.

As of July 2024, Jayson Tatum’s net worth is $50 Million.

Early Life

Jayson Christopher Tatum, on the 3rd of March, 1998, in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was conceived when both his parents were 19 years old and were not married to each other.

When he was born, his mother decided to raise him as a single mother.

His father, Justin, was a basketball player who played for ‘St. Louis University.’

He later took up a job as a gym teacher and a basketball coach at the ‘Christian Brothers College High School’ in St. Louis.

Career

A five-star recruit out of high school, Jayson Tatum was ranked number three behind Harry Giles and Josh Jackson in the 2016 class.

He attended Duke University for college, where he played for the Blue Devils men’s basketball team until 2017.

However, after his freshman season, Tatum declared himself for the NBA Draft and forgo the rest of his collegiate eligibility.

Wanting to become one of the richest NBA players in the world, Jayson Tatum didn’t want to waste any time building up his career.

The Boston Celtics

At the start of the 2017 NBA Draft, the Celtics general manager gave away their number one pick to the 76ers so that he could acquire a valuable draft pick.

The player he had his eye on was Jayson Tatum, and he was eventually selected third overall, following Jaylen Brown as their first small forward.

In his NBA debut, Tatum recorded a double-double and was named the Eastern Conference’s Rookie of the Month in December.

During game one of the second-round series, he became the first Celtics rookie to score 25 points since Larry Bird in 1980.

Not long after that, he joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the second rookie to record 10 games of 20 points during their first playoffs.

Showing Off His Skills

During his sophomore season, he won the Skills Challenge during the NBA All-Star Weekend after a very solid second season.

In 2019, his third season started off strong, but it was soon put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Tatum still helped the Celtics advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, where Bam Adebayo blocked his game-tying dunk attempt.

At the start of the 2020-21 season, Tatum received a five-year rookie maximum contract extension and $195 million.

Soon after, on April 9th, Tatum and Zach LaVine became the second pair of players to score 50+ points on the same day.

In Game 3 of the playoffs, against Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, Tatum scored 50 points and passed 1,000 total career points.

Later, in 2021, Jayson Tatum became the first player in history to be named Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks.

An All-Star MVP

Jayson Tatum came into the 2022-23 season strong, becoming the youngest player to make 900 three-pointers, surpassing Bradley Beal’s record.

In January 2023, he put up his second career triple-double and became the 10th player to record 9,000 career points before the age of 25.

Thanks to his skills, Tatum claimed the All-Star Game MVP Award in February 2023 after a record-breaking performance.

Soon after, Tatum became the first player in Celtics history to record multiple 50-point playoff games and to score 50+ without any turnovers.

Unfortunately, in Game 7, he injured his ankle, and while he continued playing, it impacted his performance, and the Celtics lost to the Miami Heat.

Although Tatum ended the season frustrated by the loss, it drove him to come back even stronger the following season.

In November 2023, he became the youngest player in Celtics history to reach 10,000 career points at 25 and 246 days.

Favorite Quotes from Jaylen Brown

“I disagree that an athlete can’t be intelligent. Some people think that, in basketball, we have a bunch of masculine adults who don’t know how to control themselves. They’re feeble-minded and can’t engage or articulate ideas. That’s a narrative they keep trying to paint.” – Jaylen Brown

“There’s this idea of America that some people have to win and some have to lose, so certain things are in place to make this happen. Some people have to be the next legislators and political elites, and some have to fill the prisons and work in McDonald’s. That’s how America works. It’s a machine which needs people up top and people down low.” – Jaylen Brown

“At Berkeley, you wore a hoodie and pajamas and Birkenstocks, and that’s swag. I was so thrown off. What I thought was cool was cool no more, so I thought about what I actually liked. I started experimenting.” – Jaylen Brown

“You’ve got athletes who are politicians, venture capitalists, musicians, rappers, etcetera. It’s becoming more of a popular thing to have other interests outside of basketball, and I think that’s normal. Just like when people work day jobs, they have an interest in sports, they do investments, they do all these other types of things.” – Jaylen Brown

In November 2007, he signed with the University of Southern California, passing up offers from Arizona State and North Carolina.

During his first game with the Trojans, he scored a team-high 21 points and later was named the Pac-10 Tournament MVP.

Although he only spent one season with USC, that was enough to garner him considerable attention from the NBA.

Inspired by the richest NBA players in the world DeRozan chose to forgo his final three years of eligibility at USC to enter the Draft.

The Toronto Raptors

Upon entering the 2009 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors selected DeMar DeRozan ninth overall, and in July, he signed his contract.

Soon after, he took part in the Sprite Slam Dunk Competition but lost in the final round to Nate Robinson, the three-time champion.

In his debut with the Spurs, DeRozan earned 28 points in a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves and later recorded his first double-double.

During the 2019-20 season, he got off to a good start, and he was invited to the NBA Bubble once the season was suspended due to COVID-19.

The Chicago Bulls

Career

After attending Archbishop Mitty High School, where he excelled in basketball and track and field, Aaron followed his family’s lead and chose a basketball career.

His dad, older brother Drew Gordon, and sister Elise played college basketball, so it’s no surprise he followed this route.

During his sophomore year in high school, Gordon helped his team win their first state title in men’s basketball.

He went to university after being named the California Mr. Basketball Player of the Year during his junior and senior high school years.

In 2013, Aaron Gordon committed to playing college basketball at the University of Arizona and was named the MVP of the 2013 McDonald’s All-American Game.

In 2014, he declared for the NBA draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility, and was selected by the Orlando Magic in the NBA draft.

He had career-best seasons with the Nuggets in 2022 and 2023, and his stirring court performances earned him All-Star consideration.

Injury Scares

But it hasn’t all been plain sailing for Aaron, as he’s had his fair share of injury scares resulting in significant time on the sidelines.

He fractured his left foot during the 2014-15 season and, in November 2014, he was told that he couldn’t play after a loss to the Washington Wizards.

He could only play again in January of the following year and, consequently, missed 32 games during the season.

This didn’t slow him down at all, as he continued to improve and was rewarded with his first double-double in April, beating the Milwaukee Bucks.

During the 2017-18 season, he was once again sidelined with a hip flexor strain, which saw him miss nine games in February.

The 2019-2020 season was another frustrating year for Aaron as he suffered a hamstring injury that left him out of the first-round playoffs series.
