Performance Responsibilities
Plan and develop a course of study suitable for assigned grade levels and classes that is consistent with curriculum guidelines of the school district and the state.
Develop lesson plans in support of the curriculum that include a variety of strategies to encourage student engagement.
Implement classroom teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
Prepare assignments and assessments to measure student attainment of learning goals.
Administer standardized tests in accordance with accepted protocol and state regulations.
Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and administer discipline, if needed, that is consistent with district policies.
Supervise students during passing periods and other times as assigned by the building principal.
Provides extra support for struggling students when needed.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate student progress to parents/guardians as required by the school or whenever such communication is needed.
Conduct parent-teacher conferences during regularly scheduled times and at other times when necessary.
Collaborate with other professionals to meet the social and emotional needs of students.
Utilize the Response to Intervention strategies developed by the district to address the unique learning needs of students.
Collaborate with other teachers to make recommendations related to placement for the next school year.
Participate in faculty meetings, committee meetings, educational conferences, and other professional development activities to ensure best practices are utilized in the classroom.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers art classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in art
Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback to regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in art projects, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within fine arts, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Inspects art supplies to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
