Samuel Goldwyn Films has snagged U.S. rights to “Anita,” the documentary about Anita Hall by Freida Mock, the helmer who picked up an Academy Award for 1994 docu “Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision.”
Film, which preemed at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, centers on a profile of Hill both during and after her experiences in 1991, when she testified in the Senate that Clarence Thomas, a nominee for the Supreme Court at the time, had sexually harassed her on multiple occasions. Movie also looks at the legacy of Hill’s testimony in the battle for gender equality.
Mock directed, wrote and produced “Anita” with exec producers are Geralyn Dreyfous, Regina Kulik Scully and Freada Klein, as well as co-exec producer Dan Cogan and associate exec producer Barbara Lee. Distribution deal for the doc was negotiated by Samuel Goldwyn Films’ Ian Puente with CAA and Cowen DeBaets Abrahams and Sheppard’s Marc Simon.
Targeted for a fall release, “Anita” joins a Samuel Goldwyn slate that includes “The Short Game,” the kiddie golfer doc the company recently partnered with Phase 4 to release, as well as current releases “Renoir,” “Still Mine” and “Somm” and past titles “Super Size Me,” “Mao’s Last Dancer” and “Robot and Frank.”
