16no evidence one way or another but I'd guess there isn't sound on websites because there isn't sound on websites. The medium is firmly established as a soundless one which leads people to use it in locations where they need to be quiet or to have an alternative sound source running whilst they surf (tv, music, etc...)– the other oneCommented Dec 21, 2015 at 8:21

175I can't think of anything more annoying than sound for websites, plus in a lot of environments like the office, I do not even have sound available.– PlasmaHHCommented Dec 21, 2015 at 14:02

38For the record, "Options - Notifications - Disable all sounds" is the first thing I do after installing Skype on a new computer.– Dmitry GrigoryevCommented Dec 21, 2015 at 14:34

10When I'm playing a game, is about the only time sound is acceptable, and even then I should be able to turn off the sound and music independently, and both ASAP.– aslumCommented Dec 21, 2015 at 15:37

29Might mention that I absolutely hate the Skype sign-in/sign-out sound, but maybe that's just me...– AStopherCommented Dec 21, 2015 at 20:18

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. website-design), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
