Is arp periodically called to check connectivity?
Do most of linux implementations periodically make arp requests to check connectivity?
I am trying to migrate an ubuntu virtual machine and, after migration, it just loses network connectivity.

After cloning Fedora 14 install to another machine, onboard NIC is seen as eth1 instead of eth0. Why?
I have the following procedure for replicating a Fedora workstation setup.
Boot from a Live CD, make tgz's of the filesystems.
Go to new machine, make filesystems, dump the tgz's in the proper places....
