Sep 1, 2015 at 17:11 comment added Daniel Griscom There's no /boot/syslinux/; I've posted /boot and /boot/grub. EDD seems to be enabled (hence the messages). nolapic is not in the kernel boot line; how would I tell if it were on? hard drive mode settings in BIOS can be IDE or AHCI, it doesn't make a difference for the settings.
Sep 1, 2015 at 15:22 comment added user3566929 is nolapic on? and what is your hard drive access mode?
Sep 1, 2015 at 15:17 comment added user3566929 is EDD enabled or disabled?.it is supposed to help O.S. cope (as you have read in wikipedia "INT 13H") with large sector size for big size drives but as you can see your sector size is 512kb which is the standard so i guess you could turn it off as some have reported it causing issues but at the same time the two messages your bios prints when frozen indicate that it is semi-working properly and not causing issues so leaving it on will be of help too so i guess we will leave it on for now but i am just sharing my mind with you cause you might be the better judge in the end
Sep 1, 2015 at 14:45 comment added user3566929 not a problem at all, could you post the /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg ? as i fear giving you the wrong instruction for the wrong reason and causing loss of all data.
Sep 1, 2015 at 12:58 comment added Daniel Griscom Info added to question, and thanks for the continuing help.
Sep 1, 2015 at 2:06 comment added user3566929 first try parted -l on both motherboards and i know the second one is troublesome but bare with me and please read what i asked you to read as there is a point where you will be on your own and i will just give you hints and guidelines
Sep 1, 2015 at 2:04 comment added user3566929 then it is probably an MBR problem and this problem is much more common for linux users that use flash-based drives than normal drives
Aug 31, 2015 at 22:33 comment added Daniel Griscom This problem happens when booting from the development drive (which is a flash-based SSD), as well as from a completely separate production SATA-DOM (also flash-based). Both work fine on the previous motherboard. So, it isn't any sort of corruption with one of the drives.
