As we come to the end of #icw24 it has been fantastic to see so many posts and sharing of learning and experiences. The #coaching community is by it's very nature, supporting, nurturing and super friendly. My last post for this week is about using #VirtualReality to increase capability. It is not a new concept, but it is becoming much more accessible and the possibilities are endless. One of the advantages of using immersive learning is the increased speed on embedding the learning. The #vr experience we offer is not avatar to avatar, in this case, it is providing an immersive learning experience that creates awareness in the moment. For example, a participant walks into a prison cell, and has a problem to solve in a stipulated time. The reactions, self talk and body language observed helps to raise awareness for the person. With the added advantage from the #coach, they can create strategies on how to identify and manage those reactions, and apply in the real world. The experience is not forgotten and has a more lasting impact on the individual. This is ideal for early career training programmes, leadership development, team building and one-to-one work. #TrainingDesign isn't that difficult... but it's not that easy to do it well (and get it right first time) either! When I started working with other L&D practitioners I realised how what was standard practice for me wasn't standard for everyone. Of course, there's more than one way to do it well, and I have developed my skills through working with others just as they have developed theirs by working with me. It's all about continuous development in an evolving world. But if you design live training, no matter what industry, there are some things that remain constant. And I put 20 tips for doing it well into a very short document. It will take you all of 3 minutes to read, and is perfect for those new to training design or to act as a quick checklist for you if you are more experienced. Delighted that the Reflective Practice Space in April saw a growing number of participants... some familiar faces and some new ones! This month we were working with all the "number 8" prompts from my latest book Creating the Reflective Habit. The auditory prompt was most frequently experimented with, it was an invitation to engage with a soundbath, I have to say its one of my favourite approaches... A poem, the "nine types of silence" was another option - and if you have ever struggled with filling a silence - this would be worth a read!! If you are interested in what else we shared then head on over to our linkedIn book club. Five prompts are released there every month. The RPS sessions occur each month over a lunchtime (in the UK) - booking is via EventBrite. So - whatever your approach to reflection - happy "pausing"!!! Why not join me for a free online 'Reflect & Sketch' session Tues 4/6 evening? If you would like to try using drawing as a starting point for some reflection and looking ahead to summer, why not give this session a go? The drawing is all very accessible if you haven't drawn since you were a child - I will guide you and help you to get started. I have lots of experience of getting all kinds of professionals drawing, particularly those who haven't drawn for a long time and who don't see themselves as artists. I find that drawing is a great tool for helping us to slow down, relax and think more deeply which makes it a perfect partner for reflection. This session is titled 'Reflect & Sketch - The Promise of Summer' and we will be drawing summer themed things and reflecting on the kind of summer we would like for ourselves, whether in our work or personal life. The session will be informal and relaxed. You will need some paper to draw on and some pens and pencils to draw with - I think some coloured pens would be a great addition for this session. As we approach an almost certain change of UK government it's a pivotal time to reflect on our responses to change. Change can be a double-edged sword; it can ignite a sense of possibility and hope for some and a feeling of uncertainty and fear for others. 🤔 Why do we react to change differently? Our experiences, values, expectations, and the stakes involved play significant roles. For those who view the change positively, it can represent new opportunities and growth. Conversely, change can be daunting and worrying for those concerned what a change may bring. This applies to our country, our companies, and our personal lives. 🌐 How can we navigate these differing perspectives? It starts with empathy. Recognising that not everyone shares the same response to change allows us to approach conversations with understanding and care. The ability to ‘disagree agreeably’ is a very useful skill. 🔄 And at work, what can we do to foster a positive environment amidst change?
