“I worked closely with Rory as teammates on Stanford University's tech and entrepreneurship course. We designed and then delivered a business pitch to world-leading venture capitalists, and Rory's vision, creativity, and fantastic presenting skills were integral to our team achieving second place in the competition. Rory's passion for using emerging tech to solve huge challenges really shone through and he was able to effectively leverage this to push us to meet demanding deadlines. I am really looking forward to seeing what Rory achieves in the future and would love to work with him again on future projects.”

Here's how you can foster technological innovation through virtual collaboration.
Companies and innovators are increasingly leveraging immersive technologies, such as Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR and VR) to enhance virtual collaboration. Whilst these can incorporate tools like whiteboards and cloud-based environments, they combine these with more effective data visualisation and less restrictive user interfaces. This empowers innovators by removing the restrictions of a 2D environment. Just as computing is becoming spatial, so too is collaboration and it's the early adopters who will make the most of this revolution in how we create, share and innovate. Start by experimenting with more affordable and ubiquitous immersive technologies such as smartphone apps then consider headsets if there's a clear value-add.

Here's how you can build a personal brand in Technological Innovation to advance your career.
Don't be afraid to add value in new spaces, even if these contain few of your contacts or established relationships. A diversity of perspectives is always valuable and provided you have something unique or insightful to add, all contributions are welcome. Don't forget that it takes time to establish credibility and that everybody has to begin somewhere. After all, experience is the precursor to credibility. This is not to say that you shouldn't still prioritise learning and listening. Doing so will make your online engagement more appealing to a broader audience as your openness to different perspectives will be reflected in your advice. So jump right in, share your experience, build credibility and most importantly, listen and learn.
-
Here's how you can showcase your expertise in technological innovation through your personal brand.
When educating others, it's important to remember that the best educators begin with a focus on those closest to them. Start by upskilling colleagues, perhaps offering to deliver a teach-in on future trends to your team or division, or even in an all-staff meeting. This will enable you to find allies without having to build the necessary relationships from scratch. Plus, collaboration is often less complex within organisations than between them. This isn't to say that educating external stakeholders isn't valuable. If choosing this route, identify a few decision-makers or relationship holders outside your organisation, try to reach out through a warm intro, be honest about your intentions and explore overlaps in your mission or purpose.
-
Here's how you can effectively convey technological innovation trends to industry professionals.
I find that the key often lies in showcasing the potential applications of future technologies over a broad range of industries and sectors. Take advanced robotics technologies. Industrial robotics in space will enable in-orbit assembly and manufacturing (and underpin the emerging New Space Economy) whilst robotic arms (most likely remotely operated by human surgeons, for now at least) will democratise access to complex medical procedures. Despite these broad applications, it's important to remember that across all industries and sectors, the underlying trends remain consistent: namely greater connectivity, autonomy, intelligence, adaptability and cooperation with human operators. The use of AI will only enhance these drivers.

Dissertation: The Use of Blockchain Technology in the Delivery of Foreign Aid: A Cost-Benefit Analysis
King's College London Department of Political Economy
This policy evaluation presents the results from the first cost-benefit analysis of blockchain technology’s use in the delivery of foreign aid. This policy evaluation presents the results from the first cost-benefit analysis of blockchain technology’s use in the delivery of foreign aid. Through analysing the World Food Programme’s ‘Building Blocks’ scheme, which uses a private blockchain to deliver cash-based assistance to refugees in Jordan, the feasibility of addressing foreign aid’s corruption, ineffectiveness, complexity and cost through the technology is determined. After assuming 500,000 refugees are to benefit from the scheme over a 5-year period, the results of this analysis indicate that substantial cost savings can be achieved through the use of blockchain technology. The costs, which include protecting against data breaches, running costs, blockchain development rates, storage fees, speed upgrades, training and scalability increases amount to approximately $23.6m. The benefits, on the other hand, which include transaction fee reductions, efficiency boosts and infrastructure savings total around $74.7m over this 5-year period. With a net benefit of $51.1m and a cost-benefit ratio of 3.17, it is clear that this technology may prove highly beneficial for both the World Food Programme distributing the aid (due to greater efficiency) and the refugees receiving it (as cost savings allow for more aid to be received). Subsequent analysis reveals that this net benefit could provide an additional 511,000 refugees with financial assistance through Building Blocks, more than doubling the total number of refugees the World Food Programme intend to assist in Jordan.

The purpose of the trip is to look at the three religious traditions of this highly contested region of the world to see how they underpin today's conflict, but also how they might contribute to its resolution.
Throughout the week-long trip we visited the sites of sacred significance to the three Abrahamic faiths and met groups and individuals from all sides to hear their perspectives and to learn what they are doing to work for peace. We met and were hosted by Israelis and Palestinians, Muslims, Christians and Jews. We heard starkly different perspectives and saw challenging things which we discussed in groups each day. Students were left to make up their own minds and were asked only to participate with openness and a desire to learn from those seeking reconciliation and justice.
Highlights included:
- Visiting key sites in Jerusalem including the Western Wall, Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Via Dolorosa
- Synagogue visit and Shabbat meal with Jewish families
- Overnight stay in Bethlehem with Palestinian families and visit to Aida refugee camp
- Visit to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial
- Touring key sites in Nazareth including Galilee, Church of the Annunciation, the tomb of Maimonides and the White Mosque
