All brands talk about customer trust and loyalty. Loyalty and subscription programmes do not actually tap into trust and do not really address the psychological needs consumers require around 'loyalty' decisions and behaviours. Most brands do not actually understand the psychological basis of business, product and brand trust. Many are concentrating on areas that either do not make any difference or worse can negatively impact trust in their audiences. We’ve just completed a 2 year scientific study on what brand trust is and what matters to customers and why. The discussion on AI / AGI misses a salient point 😵 Just like an IQ test, an assessment of intelligence can only be done by a 3rd party - otherwise anyone can just say they're intelligent with no basis But like all assessments, they all have their inherent biases and will emphasise some aspects of "intelligence" more than others As such, there is no such thing as a *𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞* or *𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥* definition of intelligence Furthermore, even if there was a god-like machine/being that could logistically manage the affairs of the world - the reality of life is that it's all about compromises & trade-offs Time & resources allocated to one thing, inevitably cannot be allocated to another Helping one group of stakeholders inevitably means another group will miss out And so even if all the techies / data scientists / CEOs of the world pooled their resources and created an AGI that was capable of managing all the affairs of the world, it would inevitably still end up having to make decisions based on trade-offs that will leave one group better off than another And having worked with complex groups of stakeholders for many years, if one group is happy, it almost always means multiple other stakeholders aren't as happy - and they will naturally conclude that this so-called AGI isn't actually that intelligent at all as their needs haven't been met 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Unsure at this stage - that's why it's a random musing. Interesting first day at Learning Technologies Exhibition & Conference and I’m looking forward to more provocations and conversations today. AI is stealing the headlines but not much is being said here about where that will take an industry built on content. AI will do it quicker, cheaper etc. That’s a burning platform and we need to look beyond learning as content. Storytelling isn’t just for marketing. It’s an important tool in writing grant and funding bids too. I recently did some data analysis work to create a narrative from the numbers for a large organisation. The purpose was to extract the human story and turn it into something compelling. It got me thinking about how overlooked this element is when going for funding. Here are some tips. 📋 Follow the guidance - With any funding application, you need to ensure you cover all the key points. Start by thinking about what information you'll need to share to tick all those boxes. 👍 A real person will read the application - For the most part, a real person will read through anything you submit. The more compelling and interesting you can make your application, the better. 🌱 Consider the impact of your product - How does it benefit the end user? What’s the transformation? Take a heat pump innovation, for example. Your tech might make it easier to install but what’s the knock-on effect of that? Are you combatting fuel poverty? Supporting specific net zero goals? Aligning with UN SDGs? 📊 Use third-party stats - As well as including your own info and data, you can use third-party data to back up your points. This might include info from the Energy Saving Trust or similar organisations. Showing your product in the context of the industry, consumers, or the economic landscape can make a real difference in how you tell your story. 🧵 Include a narrative thread - Choose your key message and refer back to it throughout the application. This might mean coming back to the consumer benefit or referring to a case study. This ties the whole application together and puts everything in context for the person making the decision. 📖 Readability is important - A lot of the time, an application will focus more on the information than how it's written. How do you stand out from the crowded inbox? Create content that informs and entertains. One of the ways to do this is with interactive content. A huge leap away from static words and pictures. Here's one of my fav's I could watch that nugget dunk in a lush sauce pot for hours ;) Giving your readers content that they love and value will keep them coming back to read. Seeking your emails in their inbox rather than skipping over them. This example was created by the powerhouse that is Armadillo and a DMA (Data & Marketing Association) UK award winner.
