...very interesting insights, Arwel Owen, Gaurish Dessai, I agree the architecture is a very good approach. Personally I have to say I would add also non-SAP ERP's on the overall architecture. There is many advantages on having a secondary ERP system operating, among them that for small units it might be fitting much better and also in M&A you might inherit a new and modern and perfectly fitting local ERP - good reasons to reconsider effort versus benefit..... Plus you have disconnected fallback options for security incidents and also if your primary vendor lock-in becomes unbearable...and unpayable....

*** Why the Enterprise Architect is the Key Player for SAP Sales Success *** In recent years, tech companies have heavily invested in enhancing their sales cycles, with a significant portion of this budget allocated to improving the capabilities of presales teams. Traditionally, the preseller has ever been "the guy with the demo". I recall the keynote at FKOM 2017 by the then-EMEA president of SAP, during which he declared "the most important factor for sales success is the best-possible demo-experience". This directive meant a communication-model in which the interaction is OEM-driven and more about talking then listening. This aligned with SAP's competitors strategies, resulting in the industry-wide creation of immersive showcases and labs showcasing cutting-edge technology, bringing the holodeck of the Starship Enterprise within reach. These innovative setups represent an evolution of the classical demo, adding color, visualization, and immersiveness. However, they often fall short in two aspects: they remain predominantly one-way communication channels, and they tend to prioritize display over substantive content, reflecting a broader trend also observed in social selling (well, just look around here on linkedin) but with the same result: Many customers still don't find their case for SAP S/4HANA. The reason why this approach often fails to elucidate how the significant capabilities of the latest enterprise applications translate into tangible benefits for individual customers in their specific contexts, is it underperforms in three critical elements essential for customer comprehension: Listening, understanding, and translating. This is where Enterprise Architects come onto the stage: They are the individuals with extensive experience in customer interactions and a background in consulting, frequently underestimated and undervalued despite possessing the competencies and experiences to fill these crucial gaps. While their working environments may lack the glamour of immersive showcases, they are the ones in meeting rooms with whiteboards, diligently listening to understand each customer's unique situation, discussing their strategies, customer expectations, competitive landscape, and identifying capabilities necessary for success. They then translate these insights into a target architecture that aligns with the customer's objectives. This approach enables customers to grasp the value proposition tailored to their needs. While immersive showcases continue to play a vital role in highlighting capabilities derived from enterprise architecture workshops, it is the Enterprise Architect, who serves as the essential connector and translator, providing substantive content and fostering two-way understanding often overlooked in immersive demonstrations - in the sales process, and during the implementation. Wise future investments definitely will prioritize building up Enterprise Architecture resources. #sap #technology
