West Hollywood goes vegan! 🌱 In an effort to promote sustainability, the city of West Hollywood has voted to make plant-based food the default at city-sponsored events and meetings. Where possible, ingredients will also be sourced locally. Animal-based foods can still be made available upon request. The resolution was led by vice mayor Chelsea Lee Byers and supported by Mercy For Animals. Citing research from IPCC, the resolution states the importance of moving away from eating animals to help combat the climate crisis. 🌍 What do you think about this initiative? 👇 #Hollywood #WestHollywood #PlantBased #PlantBasedFood #Sustainability #ClimateCrisis #Environment (Image Credit: AdobeStock)

How can Gen Z consumers be encouraged to adopt a plant-based diet? 🌱 A recent survey of over 500 university students in the UK, Greece and India analysed the factors that influence Gen Z consumers to eat plant-based. The research found that around half of Indian students were open to trying a plant-based diet, but only 19.6% of Brits and 14.4% of Greeks were willing to make the switch. Most of the respondents (65%) agreed that plant-based diets can be safe and healthy, and almost half (45.5%) believed that plant-based products are healthier than animal products. However, 32.8% of students thought plant-based products do not taste as good as the animal equivalent and 39.4% thought they were too expensive. The survey highlights that Gen Z consumers are motivated by health but can be put off adopting a plant-based diet due to the taste and price of vegan alternative products. Let us know what you think of these findings! ⬇ #GenZ #PlantBased #Vegan #PlantBasedFood #PlantBasedDiet (Image credit: Unsplash)

Wimbledon is serving up sustainability with plant-based Victoria sponge! 🍰🎾 The traditional cake, usually filled with jam and cream, now uses Flora spread and coconut cream to help reduce the environmental impact of the tournament. All England Club, which hosts Wimbledon, has introduced several sustainability measures and aims to reach net zero emissions by 2030. 🌱 All dishes served at the tournament now have a carbon weighting ranging from A-E, with A being low impact. The traditional Victoria sponge had a D rating and almost twice the carbon impact as the plant-based option – equivalent to charging a smartphone 123 times. Which major sporting events should offer more plant-based options? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #Wimbledon #PlantBased #Vegan #PlantBasedFood #VeganFood #Sustainability #NetZero (Image credit: AdobeStock)

Is public support for plant-based dishes in the NHS growing? 🥗 A survey commissioned by Plant-Based Health Professionals UK found that a third of Brits would support a switch to entirely plant-based meals in NHS hospitals. 🌱 Over half (55%) of the 2,000 respondents think that the meals served in hospitals need to change, with only 11% believing that the current meals are healthy. Around three-quarters (74%) of respondents agree that changing our diets and lifestyles is important to reduce the risk of chronic health conditions. Interestingly, over one-third (35%) think processed meats should be served to patients and 61% would be unhappy if they weren't served meat in hospital. Other insights include: 🌱 53% of respondents are worried some patients would refuse to eat plant-based meals 🌱 35% are unsure if plant-based meals would be as tasty as meat-based meals 🌱 41% would be in favour of plant-based milks and yoghurts replacing dairy 🌱 32% say they'd be interested in trying a plant-based diet 🌱 31% have decreased their meat intake in the last two years Plant-based meals are the default option in New York City hospitals, an initiative introduced by Veganuary supporter Mayor Eric Adams. Plant-based nuggets take the lead in a comprehensive blind taste test! 👏 A recent study by Food System Innovations reveals fascinating insights into consumer preferences for plant-based meats. Over 1,150 American omnivores participated in the study, which evaluated 45 plant-based products across various categories. Participants assessed the products on 15 sensory attributes, comparing the plant-based options to the animal-based equivalent. A standout finding is that plant-based nuggets outperformed the meat-based versions in the nugget category. 🙌 The taste test for nuggets included products from Impossible Foods, Quorn Foods and Rebellyous Foods. However, the study also highlights areas for improvement in other categories. Consumer satisfaction with plant-based bacon, burgers and hot dogs varies widely, showing the importance of achieving the right appearance, taste and texture in plant-based alternatives. 🥓 What innovations do you think are still needed to make plant-based meats more appealing to consumers? 👇 #PlantBased #Vegan #VeganFood #MeatAlternatives #MeatFree #ConsumerInsights (Image credit: Impossible Foods)
