The little-known history behind the military presence at Wimbledon….🎾 💂 The UK Armed Forces and Wimbledon have been closely linked for more than 70 years. Wimbledon’s Centre Court sustained bomb damage during the Second World War, so when it reopened to the public in 1946, serving personnel were drafted in to help spectators safely reach their seats. So began a close relationship between two great British institutions, with more than 400 sailors, soldiers and aviators this year volunteering their time to ensure the Championships run smoothly. 🙌

❗CONTENT WARNING❗ Cases of rape, sexual violence and torture are emerging from Ukraine. These acts were perpetrated by invading Russian forces. Their victims often the most vulnerable who were unable to flee. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, the UN's Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and Ukraine's Office of the Prosecutor General have all documented reports and evidence of sexual violence including cases of rape. Earlier this year the Duchess of Edinburgh visited Ukraine to highlight the plight of the victims and to call for justice. Under international humanitarian law rape and sexual violence is a war crime and a crime against humanity. Sexual violence will never be an accepted part of conflict. 🇺🇦#StandWithUkraine
