In the world of semiconductor manufacturing, the use of silicon carbide as an alternative to silicon holds the promise of power devices with far greater efficiency than what we typically have today. Such devices are made with specialized systems like those offered by group company Nissin Ion Equipment, an expert in ion implantation technology. So what makes silicon carbide different from regular silicon? What kinds of technical challenges are faced by companies that make equipment to process SiC wafers? And how does Nissin tackle these challenges? We take a look at the answers in the new issue of ID Magazine. Read the article: https://lnkd.in/eyq4KQXw Connect with Innovation | Sumitomo Electric

In more than 30 years of being involved in the sales of automotive wiring harnesses, Kazuyoshi Nakai has learned the value of being able to adapt in many ways — to the needs of customers, to his surroundings, and now to major changes in the industry itself. "What will the future of automobiles be like? Will only electric vehicles continue to grow in number? What possibilities will there be for hybrid, gasoline, and hydrogen engines? No matter what future awaits the market, we will make proposals that can respond promptly to our customers' requests, taking into account all possibilities," said Nakai-san in a recent interview. As for his responsibilities toward those around him, Nakai-san reflects on advice he was given years ago: "You can serve society well by fostering young talent … That answer made me notice that just as my seniors had fostered me, I had the mission of supporting the growth of younger people, who will, in turn, foster the next generation." Sumitomo Electric has developed a highly accurate sensor called NEXUSEYE™ for use in pedestrian safety systems, which help prevent accidents between people and motor vehicles. The new sensor provides high detection accuracy not only in daylight and good weather, but also at night and in bad weather conditions — that is, in situations where poor visibility makes accidents more likely to occur. Based on millimeter wave technology, NEXUSEYE overcomes the limitations that conventional sensors have with maintaining accuracy in adverse conditions. It also offers the benefits of a wide sensing area, easy installation, and easy maintenance. In North America, we look forward to introducing this advanced pedestrian detector through our exclusive partner Iteris, Inc., a leader in smart mobility infrastructure management. As a global organization with a shared focus on the Sumitomo Electric Group 2030 VISION, we do our best to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing among group companies. One method for doing this is our annual series of regional executive conferences, the most recent of which was held in Wiesbaden, Germany in the beginning of July. This year's Sumitomo Electric Executive Conference EMEA brought together company leaders from the EMEA region, Japan, Singapore, and the United States for two days of discussions on current business activities, initiatives related to Corporate Social Responsibility, and areas of ongoing and potential collaboration. From the President's blog: "Over the past few weeks, Sumitomo Electric issued three press releases about renewable energy projects in Europe. The region now has a number of large-scale projects, ranging from tens of billions to hundreds of billions of yen in investments, that require products such as submarine cables for offshore wind farms and underground cables to transmit electricity from renewable sources to inland areas. At one of the factories that will be supplying these power cables, located in Scotland, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 14th. I was at this ceremony and had the pleasure of meeting many government officials and local businesspeople." Continue reading: https://lnkd.in/eAivKkHX Connect with Innovation | Sumitomo Electric
