Last week, both the Financial Conduct Authority and PRA have fined Citigroup Global Markets, a Citigroup subsidiary, for a total of £61.7m for control failures in relation to its trading system. According to the FCA’s press release, the regulator fined the investment firm ‘because failures in [its] systems and controls allowed a trader’s erroneous order to enable $1.4 billion in equities improperly sold on the European market on one day in May 2022”.
