Thank you to everyone who took part in the PPF's #InclusionInSport event at the Oval today. Despite clashing with another event that may have stolen the limelight, all the panellists shined bright talking about a range of issues across professional sport. We heard from Brendon Batson OBE Chair of the PPF as well as Simone Pound who chairs the PPF EDI Committee as well as a host of other players, player and governing bodies. Thank you everyone for your insights and hopefully a lot was learned. Massive thanks to Matt Garvey for organising the PADSIS course at Bristol this year. The course detailed the role of working and coaching in independent schools. Sessions included: • managing the transition out of professional sport. • understanding the skills and experience needed to fulfil Director of Sport and Rugby positions. • Practical experience coaching across variety of ages at Clifton College and QEH Bristol • the highlight- taking part in mock interviews, which showed just how challenging and yet rewarding the role could be. Really keen to continue coaching in the school environment so if any of my network know of any opportunities- please do get in touch!

July is the time players are gearing up for preseason, filled with nerves, excitement and anticipation. July is also a milestone for many newly retired players. It’s the first time in years that you won’t be heading back to training. This period can evoke a mix of emotions as they enter the separation stage. The separation stage is ambiguous, as they are in between letting go of the athlete identity and moving on to a new identity. “No longer what they were, nor yet what they will” When supporting players in this stage asking great questions can be transformative. It's not always about having all the answers, but rather about approaching challenges from a new angle. A great question has the power to reframe our thinking, opening doors to fresh possibilities and insights we might not have considered before. These questions shift the focus from nostalgia to opportunity, from dwelling in uncertainty to embracing a future filled with potential. I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on great questions we could ask athletes in career transition.
