On May 21, 2024, the Council of the European Union definitively approved the AI Act, the first European regulation on AI, concluding a legislative process that began in 2021. 🤖 The AI Act aims to balance the protection of rights and freedoms with fostering technological innovation, ensuring the safe deployment of AI systems in Europe while aligning with the EU’s fundamental values and rights. 💡 This regulation fits within a broader European and international framework addressing AI utilisation, alongside initiatives from the OECD’s “Principles on AI” (2019) and the UN's report on “Governing AI for Humanity.” 🌍 In this article, RSM experts from Italy delve into who this impacts and the key considerations.
