Yesterday Team RedTech had an awesome team-building afternoon in the Crystal Maze Live Experience followed by a meal at a Brazilian Steakhouse - all very much deserved after a super busy H1. Lots of fun was had by Robert Bull, Kirsty Harland, Rebecca Mister, Emma Mclintock, Annie Zuravel & Debbie Fletcher. They managed 7 crystals and over 150 golden tickets which given there were only 5 people in the dome was a great result! It's a real shame Kye Birks couldn't be there due to illness :( #teambuilding #crystalmaze #teamdaysout #recruitment

CAMBRIDGE WIT IS SQUEEZING IN ONE MORE EVENT BEFORE SUMMER YAY🤩 And I'm *excited* to be speaking again! I'll be doing a brief 10-minute talk on "Public Speaking – Overcoming the Fear." If you attended the March meet-up, you'll remember I mentioned my once-epic fear of public speaking. In this talk I'll be sharing how I conquered this fear and practical steps anyone can take to overcome this. (Spoiler alert - repurposing your nerves to being *excited* is just one of the tricks I'll be discussing) I'm delighted to be joined by fellow speaker Bianca Armitage, MSci Founder and Neuroscience Expert, who is explaining her journey from acting to neuroscience, academia to the NHS, and finally founding her own business. Bianca has also promised a sneak peek into her favorite tool for leveraging our nervous system to manage stress in real-time. As usual, the awesome Katherine Codlin will be hosting! The event is taking place at 7pm on Thursday 18th July at Raspberry Pi on Hills Road, Cambridge. Tickets are free and nearly always sell out - so grab yours now (and please cancel if you then can't make it!) I'm the biggest advocate of these meet-ups - it truly is the most lovely and supportive environment. This event is a must-attend for anyone passionate about technology, neuroscience, wellbeing, and fostering diversity in the tech sector. I'll put link a link to the tickets in the comments! Pic from the last event! #WIT #wellbeing #freeevent #cambridgeevent #dei

Great wrap-up here from Kirsty Harland on London Tech Week....

Business Development Manager at RedTech Recruitment - Helping organisations find top STEM talent within Tech, Science & Engineering.

⚡ London Tech Week ⚡ As expected you couldn't escape the topic of AI, with it rapidly permeating every aspect of our lives, it absolutely dominated London Tech Week. At one end of Olympia, IBM demonstrated it’s Watsonx AI capabilities in predictive analytics, while at the other end Tesla showcased their range of autonomous self-driving cars; everything in between was a bustling hub of AI chatter. Numerous panels discussed how business leaders are navigating this unchartered territory with a blend of enthusiasm and caution. Similar to the adage “the early bird catches the worm,” businesses that adapted quickly appear to have positioned themselves to gain a competitive edge, whilst those who haven't are perceived as falling behind. As AI systems become increasingly more sophisticated and autonomous, key questions are naturally being raised around governance, ethics and trust. AI currently lacks comprehensive universal regulation; however, several countries and regions (including the UK as of March 2023) have developed frameworks and guidelines to govern its use. From a Tech recruitment perspective, we've consistently seen a growing demand for AI skills from our RedTech clients. I read a report just a few weeks ago that noted since 2012, jobs requiring specialised AI skills (like deep learning) have increased sevenfold, whereas the overall job market has only doubled in size! The good news for candidates? AI-related job postings are offering salaries up to 25% higher than those without these skills! Now really is the perfect time for us to embrace AI and jump on the metaphorical bandwagon as it becomes a permanent fixture in our ever-changing tech landscape. #LondonTechWeek #LTW2024 #AI #TechNews #Innovation #Future #Technology Tilly Fleming June Angelides MBE Denis Gursky Kye Birks

Does anyone in our network use a different name on LinkedIn than what is officially on their ID?

I really need some help and input on a DE&I issue that seems totally unjust - and all those close to me know unjust situations keep me awake at night!! I'm keen to hear from others who use a different name on LinkedIn than what's on their passport or driving license? And the reason for this? LinkedIn keeps popping up asking for a piece of ID to verify my profile, promising 60% increased engagement with the verification tick. The problem is, I can't get the verification tick as my LinkedIn name doesn't match my passport. I chose not to change my surname professionally when I got married, as I felt my name is a crucial part of my brand and reputation, which is very important in recruitment. During a recent night out with some fellow Mum's, I discovered that 3 out of the 7 of us had different names on LinkedIn compared to our official IDs - not a surprise given 84% of women change their surname upon getting married in the UK. Although my LinkedIn Account Manager has been very supportive and raised this issue with the Product Team, they've informed me that there’s no solution: to get the verification tick, I must change my name to match the single piece of ID - supplying my marriage certificate with an explanation isn't allowed :( This feels like a big DE&I issue where LinkedIn has missed the ball. I'm sure there will also be people from other cultures who face the same issue, like my Chinese mother-in-law, whose chosen English name isn't on her passport. I want to respond to LinkedIn with a comprehensive perspective, so I'd love to hear from others who are affected by this issue, and the reasons behind it? #inputneeded #WomeninBusiness #WomeninTech #DEI #EDI

It looks like there is enough interest for our proposed Interview Confidence Building online session. It would be helpful to confirm what time would be preferred. We want to ensure the time is as inclusive as possible. It will take place on a weekday, likely a Wednesday or Thursday.
