Huge congratulations to our co-founder, Richard Curtis, who will be honoured at the 15th Governors Awards in November alongside industry titans Quincy Jones, Juliet Taylor, Michael G. Wilson, and Barbara Broccoli. Richard's dedication to social change is being recognised with the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. 🎉 His journey began 40 years ago with the co-founding of Comic Relief UK and USA, raising over $2 billion and impacting the lives of more than 170 million people. He co-created Make Poverty History and helped produce the Live 8 concerts. He also established the ethical investment campaign Make My Money Matter, which has helped transfer £1.3 trillion into sustainable pensions. Not to mention he’s also the creator behind some of the most iconic films: “Notting Hill,” “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” “Love Actually”. And of course, co-founder of Project Everyone, where he has been a huge driving force behind the Global Goals. We're incredibly proud to celebrate him and his ongoing mission to create positive change! ✨ https://lnkd.in/e4YmRs-k

Climate and Business Director at Project Everyone

Last week I was fortunate enough to attend the Eco Resort Network event in Mauritius for people working within the field of sustainable or regenerative tourism. I was invited to give a talk titled 'Raising Environmental Awareness Through Effective Communication' and I was the only one there from outside the sector. A few reflections, in dreaded bullet point form: * For all my hand-wringing about whether it was acceptable for me to fly halfway round the world for a conference, nothing beats spending time with people face to face, as fellow humans. The feeling of community, shared challenge and the willingness to learn, inspire and lift others up was extremely motivating. And, lest we forget, the term 'carbon footprint' was coined by BP. The oil and gas industry and other vested interests benefit from the 'progress vs perfection' in-fighting. I'm interested in systemic change, and conscious of my impact while going about it, but the reality is you cannot recreate this feeling of community, sharing best practice and inspiring each other virtually. * The sector (like many) is struggling to overturn an image, and reality, of being a destructive industry which has a few positives on the side. The urgent challenge of how to turn tourism into an overall net positive by working in tandem with local communities and indigenous groups, utilising technology to maximise sustainable practices, directing tourist money into community projects and truly factoring in regeneration of nature is also an incredibly exciting challenge for those interested in taking it up. * More honesty about the challenges. Kudos to everyone who stood up and was vulnerable about the difficulties of their journey. These things are hard. None of us are perfect. Less calling out, more calling in. We're all guilty of hypocrisy and as much as it is important to call out greenwashing, when you look under the hood, just as often it is people trying to retrofit a broad and often vague idea of "sustainability" across the business and not knowing how to go about it. It's important to bring those people along on the journey, not simply point fingers and call people out. * Mauritian rum is dangerous. Drink with caution. #EcoResortNetwork Thank you to the organisers Stephanie Curtis-Raleigh Karen Cooke Annie Hilton for a brilliantly run event and to all of the brilliant speakers and delegates including Aradhana Khowala Noelle Homsy Brendan O'Molony Robyn Woodhead Channing Henry Gene Eidelman Ana Ramirez, LEED AP, WELL AP Gertjan Hoffer Eelke Pollé Yannick Littoux 🏝🐠⛵️ Kim Irmler Victor Vazquez Maja Dimnik Jamal Wick Alejandra Wick ( Murillo Jimenez) Louis Thompson Kinga M. Making Change Through Design... Our co-founder, Richard Curtis, famously said, "To make things happen, you have to make things." That's the spirit behind our exciting partnership with Reading University, a leader in graphic design and typography. Led by the brilliant Greg Bunbury, we challenged 2nd year students to create impactful posters and campaign assets promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Design is a cornerstone of any successful social movement. It inspires, motivates, and sparks vital conversations. By combining artistic expression with activism, we can drive real progress towards achieving the SDGs. This collaboration is just the beginning. We're eager to engage with more universities and talented design students to bring the SDGs to life through the power of visual communication.

For around a year now, we’ve been campaigning on global finance reform - joining the growing chorus of voices, spearheaded often by Barbados PM Mia Mottley, calling for a fairer and more ambitious system to deliver finance to where it is most needed. Most recently, we published an open letter addressed to G20 leaders, calling on them to, among other things, triple investment into development banks. This journey has led us to something called IDA.   The International Development Association (IDA) is the World Bank’s people and planet fund for those most in need, delivering cheap loans and grants to the least developed economies. This kind of affordable, long-term finance is a vital tool in tackling the polycrisis and will be integral to achieving the Global Goals. As well as supporting countries respond to crises, IDA funding can serve as the bedrock for sustainable economic growth.   The fund is mostly made up of contributions from wealthier countries and is topped up or ‘replenished’ every three years. However, as purse strings tighten around the world, there is concern this year’s replenishment may not meet the moment.   Last week, African leaders gathered in Nairobi to discuss their priorities for IDA and the impact of the fund on their continent. Their statements are a great reminder of the importance of IDA, and why it is a win-win for people and planet. Find out more about what the leaders had to say: https://lnkd.in/esdYPepK

Last week, leaders gathered in DC for the Spring Meetings of the The World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The sentiment coming out of the Meetings is clear: while progress is happening on the reform agenda, these efforts are too slow to meet ongoing global challenges. Key insights reveal a concerning trend: the necessary financial support for vulnerable countries is significantly lacking. As the largest provider of grants and low-interest loans in these countries, IDA – the World Bank’s People and Planet Fund – plays a crucial role. Speakers at our #FinanceTheFuture event emphasized the win-win impacts of IDA investments for the #GlobalGoals – Win wins such as how investing in sustainable agriculture and female farmers simultaneously helps fight hunger, and poverty, and gender inequality and the climate crisis - and the global food price crisis - all at the same time!!!! Super smart strategic investments that benefit us all… So it’s time to intensify our efforts and make sure this year’s replenishment is the most successful ever. Let’s #FinancetheFuture to achieve the #GlobalGoals
