The King's Speech, written by the government and delivered in a neutral tone by the monarch, outlines the government's priorities and proposed laws. The 2024 speech included plans for workers' rights, renationalisation of the railways, addressing illegal immigration, housing and planning, and House of Lords reform. The State Opening ceremony begins with a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster. Upon arrival, the King processes to the throne in the House of Lords, where MPs are summoned by Black Rod. The speech is followed by a debate in the House of Commons, concluding with a symbolic vote. 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐈𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, which the government pledged would be “mission-led” and “based upon the principles of security, fairness, and opportunity for all.” Employment Rights Bill will legislate the introduction of a new deal for working people in the first 100 days to ban exploitative practices and enhance employment rights.
