The King's Speech, written by the government and delivered in a neutral tone by the monarch, outlines the government's priorities and proposed laws. The 2024 speech included plans for workers' rights, renationalisation of the railways, addressing illegal immigration, housing and planning, and House of Lords reform. The State Opening ceremony begins with a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster. Upon arrival, the King processes to the throne in the House of Lords, where MPs are summoned by Black Rod. The speech is followed by a debate in the House of Commons, concluding with a symbolic vote.
