We had a great time at FUSION24 on Tuesday, discussing all things fusion with the brightest minds in the business. We were proud to watch one of our fantastic scientists, Rosie Barker, on the 'A Unified Force' panel, speaking about how we can attract a diverse range of talent into the fusion industry. Reflecting on the day, Rosie said: "Fusion24 was a brilliant day! The overarching message for me was the need to urgently communicate with the world how fusion can positively impact their lives. "We often talk about fusion being the solution to climate change and providing clean power. However, the conference went beyond this to highlight how fusion will change the lives of individuals living in poverty by providing cheap electricity, those living without water by providing power for desalination plants, and many more people besides. "I attended a series of panels on how we can ensure the future of fusion has public support and has the diverse, skilled workforce it needs. There was a powerful panel session about the importance of narrative. My takeaway was that we need to be proactive about messaging if we want the world to enthusiastically adopt fusion as the next great technological development."

Today I took part in a webinar as a technical expert for the Fusion Industry Programme: Pulsed Power Challenge. The aim of the competition is to develop solutions to fusion energy challenges in three key priority areas (Scaling of technology, Reliability, Control Precision). The Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) has made £3.5m available for organisations and businesses to advance pulsed power technology and is agnostic of fusion scheme, ICF or MCF. The deadline for submission is not far away, it’s the 11th July, so please share widely and act quickly. Making commercial fusion energy happen is going to require many advancements in pulsed power for all of the potential schemes. At First Light Fusion we have developed LCOE (levelised cost of energy) models which highlight importance of fusion driver cost, reliability, maintainability and size in order to make any scheme viable. It’s really important for us to be advancing this now. Information regarding the challenge can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eZPfe9z5
