Our mission is to create guidelines, promote good practice for the control & treatment of parasites of companion animals
About us
Founded in 2005, the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites (ESCCAP) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation consisting of experts in the field of parasitology and public health from across Europe. It was formed to address the need for a consistent European approach to parasite control in pets, a subject which has become ever more important due to the increase in the movement and transportation of pets within Europe. ESCCAP is a free and independent parasite control resource for veterinary professionals. Its primary function is to develop free best-practice guidelines for the treatment and control of parasites in pet animals. Its aim is to protect the health of pets, enhance the safety of the public and preserve the human–animal bond.

A herd of grazing horses in Portugal, ranging from 1–3 years old, is presented to you with watery diarrhoea and poor body condition. The McMaster technique reveals oval eggs with 8 cells, with low faecal egg counts averaging 0–50 eggs per gram. The animals are dewormed once or twice a year with ivermectin. What is your diagnosis and recommended treatment? What tests do you recommend following treatment? To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/eEch4sf5 🐎 🔬

ESCCAP Ukraine is working on a project to discover the parasitological hazards of companion animals during conditions of war. DNA detection by PCR has confirmed the presence of Dirofilaria repens, Dirofilaria immitis and Acanthocheilonema reconditum. Ongoing efforts will also include screening for the presence of Leishmania spp. Thank you to our Ukrainian colleagues and fellow volunteers for carrying out this work in high-risk areas such as Kharkiv and Sumy. Thank you also to all those sponsoring the initiative and to the collective efforts of the following partners: https://uacbbc.org/; https://upaw.org/; https://lnkd.in/edb7Q6bm; https://lnkd.in/eqA-MSeM; https://lnkd.in/euDg2WR8.
