In May 2024, the EU approved its first-ever regulation to reduce methane emissions from the energy sector, of which coal mining is the largest source. Regulation’s explainer: https://lnkd.in/dBbvFvhd
Indonesia and the Philippines met increasing electricity demand primarily with #coal in 2023. Meanwhile, other historically coal-reliant countries are reducing their dependence with strong growth in wind and solar. https://lnkd.in/eypvVZqC
NEW | Brazil is the leader in renewable electricity among the G20 In 2023, 89% of Brazil’s electricity came from renewables, the highest among the G20 and three times higher than the global average of 30%. Read the analysis: https://lnkd.in/e5_JUg7j
NEW | The UK is set to fall short on its offshore wind target unless it makes immediate policy changes. Only half of the needed offshore wind capacity is expected to be delivered in the upcoming ‘Contracts for Difference’ auction. This means that the new government has three weeks left until 1st August to set a higher offshore wind budget for this summer’s auction ⏳ Increasing the budget by 25% could deliver an additional 1 GW - a great value first step to getting targets back on track 🎯 Read more on the urgency to course correct the UK’s offshore wind industry in our latest analysis of the offshore wind project pipeline 👇 https://lnkd.in/g9vrm_-A
Germany hit a MAJOR milestone in 2023, as wind overtook coal to become 🇩🇪’s largest source of electricity for the first time. 🌪️made up 27.2% of the country’s electricity mix, while coal accounted for 26.8%. Read more global electricity insights in #GER24: https://lnkd.in/eSKgREee
