Essex Bulk Services have made a commitment to achieve net zero by 2050. Recently, we worked with DEKRA (FORS - Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme Affinity Partner) and completed the Sustainability Readiness Assessment to reach this commitment. During the session, we set a target to reduce Scope 1 emissions by 90% from our 2023 baseline.   We’ve already made significant progress with projects like the reduction of our operational fleet. As a leading operator, we’ve taken the next steps by aligning our business activities with internal and external stakeholders through a materiality assessment to prioritise resources effectively.   Our net zero plan follows the #SBTI (Science Based Target Initiative), ISO Net Zero guidelines, and the #GLEC Framework/ISO 14083, ensuring we meet the highest standards of compliance and reporting while also aligning to global standards such as #CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). By closing data gaps that enable us to set clear KPIs, finding ourselves ready for the shared requirements between CSRD and FORS - Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme Version 7, especially G8, which relates to environmental engagement.   Essex Bulk Services is proud to be recognised with an Innovator’s Badge, reflecting our dedication to sustainability. We’re excited about the progress ahead and our role in leading a sustainable future within the transport industry. Thank you to Amanda Duffy CMILT for her dedication towards a sustainable future for Essex Bulk Services. Thank you to William Soper and Shrey Parikh at DEKRA and to Graham Stanley and Pat Paterson for this opportunity. We look forward to working with you again very soon. Thank you to our customers and suppliers who responded to surveys that were sent out in this process. #NetZero2050 #NetZero #Partnership #FORS #SustainableTransport #EBSfamily #Essex Paul Morris Eleven Sports Media Craig Childs FCILT/ FCIHT Carly Childs Amanda Duffy CMILT Grant Crocker MILT TechIOSH Russ Robinson Lester Childs Ian Bowhill CMILT Danny Murkin Edward Duffy Ross Gaffney

Meet the Expert: Paulo Oliveira, Director of Consulting at DEKRA Paulo Oliveira's journey in system and technical safety began at a Steel Bar Mill in the UK, where he quickly learned the critical importance of safe designs in high-risk, fast-moving systems. From those early days, his passion for ensuring safety in engineered solutions has only grown stronger. Over the years, Paulo has led teams of process safety consultants, advising clients worldwide on best practices. He credits his growth in Process Safety to the companies that provided him opportunities to study, learn, and apply safety concepts in real-life scenarios. His involvement with the UK regulator (HSE), BSI committees, and international IEC committees has further honed his expertise. Currently, Paulo chairs the Technical Network for System Safety at the IET and actively participates in initiatives with Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) ISC, the Energy Institute, and the Institute of Asset Management. Paulo's dedication to making the world a safer place remains the heartbeat of his everyday work. #ProcessSafety #DEKRA #SafetyInnovation #LeadershipInSafety

The 6th of July marks the 36th anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster. A tragic day that altered the course of the oil and gas industry, taking the lives of 167 souls. The echo of Piper Alpha serves as a stark reminder that safety isn't a choice, it's a responsibility for all of us. A responsibility that resides in the hands of every individual in the industry - from the top leadership to the grassroots workers. The legacy of those lost must not be forgotten. It must continue to act as a driver for change, propelling us to maintain a healthy sense of unease, to ensure the highest safety standards, and to stay vigilant for the weak signals that precede danger. #DEKRA #PiperAlphaRemember

Yesterday's webinar, "Understanding Brain-Centred Hazards™," organised by the IOSH Hazardous Industries Group, was both great and insightful. We explored how improvements in organisational and process safety have made workplaces safer, though progress has levelled off due to "human errors." Our experts, Ian Stewart and Christian Hopper (DipNebosh, CertIOSH) from DEKRA UK shared valuable insights on how understanding Brain-Centered Hazards™ can drive further safety advancements. Attendees learned practical strategies for hazard identification and management, and ways to enhance organisational performance and safety culture. We appreciate everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion. Stay tuned for more events that help us push the boundaries of safety and performance. Last week, we conducted a poll asking, "Do you regularly update and know your hazard profile?" Thank you to everyone who participated! 50% of respondents mentioned that they occasionally update their hazard profiles. While it's good to see that some updates are happening, regular and thorough updates are crucial to ensure all potential risks are identified and mitigated. Understanding your hazard profile is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient workplace. 🔍 Here’s why:
