Following the success of last year’s event Cygnet Hospital Colchester recently held their second Summer Fete. This year’s event, inspired by Euro 2024 had a football theme. There were many activities for service users and staff to take part in. These included; guess the name of the football, a cake stand, guess the number of sweets in the tub, a tombola full of prizes and a much loved ice cream van. Emmanuel Ozowara, Head of Occupational Therapy, said: “We brought back beat the goalie, that saw one of our Oak Court patients not only make posters for the stall but be the goalie too. One of the patients from Ramsey Unit also made bracelets for prizes as part of our hoopla game.” “Our kitchen staff put on a magnificent BBQ of burgers, sausages, salad chicken and more. They certainly made sure no one went hungry. “We had great attendance from patients, staff, carers and others and the event was enjoyed by all.”

12 months ago, Cygnet committed to becoming a more age-friendly employer by partnering with the Centre for Ageing Better. This involved us using more age-diverse images in our ad campaigns, reducing age bias in our job ad copy, offering flexible work options, and developing a dedicated menopause policy. We’ve also now partnered with Rest Less UK, a digital community for the over-50s, to promote Cygnet as an Age Inclusive Employer. This partnership allows us to attract experienced talent from the over-50 demographic and aligns with our commitment to combat ageism in the workplace. Rest Less now recognises us as an age-inclusive employer partner for 2024, showcasing our dedication to embracing age diversity. If you value age-inclusivity and would like to join Cygnet, you can learn more about us here https://lnkd.in/dpDJPg8M

Well done to Jasmine Todd and the team at Cygnet Brunel who are celebrating after the service was rated ‘Outstanding’ in its recent review by Headway, the Brain Injury Association. Cygnet Brunel is a neuropsychiatric care and treatment service in Bristol for men affected by acquired brain injuries and neurodegenerative conditions. Headway’s approved provider scheme utilises standards developed to reflect the specific needs of people with an acquired brain injury (ABI). These standards are used to evaluate a range of facilities including hospitals and neuro-rehabilitation units, residential and nursing homes and respite facilities. Cygnet Brunel was evaluated across six domains; Culture, Systems & Processes, Workforce Development, Service Delivery, Governance Leadership and Management & Quality, and finally, Environment. The Headway assessment team rated Cygnet Brunel as ‘Outstanding’ in four domains and ‘Good’ in Environment and Systems & Process, resulting in an overall ‘Outstanding’. At Cygnet, we believe in empowering the people we care for in every aspect of their lives. For our residents and service users, voting can be an integral part of feeling connected to society and being a citizen. This includes the residents at Ellen Mhor, one of our residential services in Dundee, who were supported to register to vote and to attend the polling station for the General Election on 4th July 2024. Lori Sutherland, Deputy Home Manager, said: “Staff made use of easy read documents to help support their understanding of the process and what their vote means. Some of the residents also enjoyed staying up late to watch the vote count in the evening.”

On the 27th June, Cygnet were again proud to sponsor and attend the highly anticipated Yorkshire and Humber Involvement Network annual involvement conference. With this year's theme being 'The Big Day Out', service users and staff worked together throughout the year to plan the day. This year, they wanted to celebrate in the style of a ‘night out’, starting with a VIP red carpet entrance, upbeat music throughout the day, mocktails and tasty ‘end of the night’ food.
