The great British weather didn’t let us down last Thursday, as we enjoyed our annual summer barbecue at the EMEA and UK Headquarters in West London! We indulged in plenty of delicious food, thanks to the brilliant team at Sodexo, then practiced our putts and pitches on the mini golf course, learnt the art of origami and admired each other’s glittering facepaint glow-ups. But the highlight of the afternoon came by the Way of the Sword. Our colleague Kazue Daigo is Assistant Coach to the GB Kendo team in her spare time and brought an incredible demonstration of this Japanese martial art to the event. And a few of us even had a chance to handle the shinai bamboo swords and try Kendo techniques under her expert eye. We extend huge thanks to Kazue and her teammates at Mumeishi Kendo Club London.

This week we welcomed Global Academy students, Patrick, Karam, Wud and Sonya, to our Europe and UK Headquarters for work experience. With the guidance and support of mentors Soneya Patel and Cecilie Harris, plus our Brand, Social, UX and Creative Services teams, we challenged them to create and present a social media campaign with a sustainability flavour. And what a creative force to be reckoned with they were! A solid week of ideation, research, storyboarding and filming resulted in an impressive TikTok campaign that raised a huge round of applause from a room of marketing and comms professionals. It’s a joy and a privilege to partner with Global Academy and support their students. They have bright futures ahead!

The next generation of storytellers are everywhere – and plenty don’t even know that it’s their calling yet! That’s why the Canon Young People Programme was so busy in 2023, delivering over 400 workshops to over 1,500 young people. Together with schools, NGOs and our Canon Ambassadors, we taught them value of self-expression, put incredible tools in their hands and showed them just how powerful their creativity can be. Our 2023 report takes you on a journey across 33 countries that all have one thing in common: a hopeful future for young people who want to use their creativity to drive change.
