We are thrilled to unveil the official film for the My Palace Programme! As part of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan commitment to creating a lasting social impact through the redevelopment of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Beyond the Box collaborated to launch this groundbreaking initiative. The My Palace Programme is all about providing young Londoners with new opportunities, including paid employment, skills and leadership development, and network expansion. Our mission? To design and create inclusive and accessible spaces for sports, fitness, movement, and wellbeing at the iconic Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Through this project, we’ve fostered a vibrant community of young sports leaders and aspiring designers and architects, known as equity designers. Meet our sports leaders: Champions of diversity and inclusion in sports, they’ve been organising and hosting various sessions at Crystal Palace, making a real difference! Meet our equity designers: They observed these sessions closely, gathering invaluable insights on user experiences, particularly focusing on access and inclusion. Engaging with participants, their families, and carers, they identified constraints and opportunities, using this research to craft innovative design solutions for Crystal Palace. The project culminated in a powerful presentation of their concepts and solutions to stakeholders and the wider project team at City Hall, London. This journey has been incredible, and we can’t wait for you to see the film and join us in celebrating the amazing achievements of the My Palace Programme! Time Is Running Out To Discover The Hidden Creative Talents of East London! A few weeks ago, we shared the exciting news about the launch of our new competition ' Expressions of Resilience' in collaboration with BUILDHOLLYWOOD. This design competition and contemporary cultural production project is specifically targeted at aspiring creatives aged 16 to 25, residing in the London Borough of London Borough of Hackney and London Borough of Tower Hamlets. To reach these young talents, we have launched a comprehensive marketing and advertising campaign across East London and we can't wait to see the incredible creativity this competition will inspire! Deadline for Cultural Event Proposals: Friday 21st June Midnight. We invite young creatives to submit ideas for cultural events that align with the theme "Expressions of Resilience." Five ideas will be selected in partnership with award winning Producer Sarah Page, allowing the chosen producers to create their own events at the redesigned space. Events can range from live performances, film screenings, industry talks, and debates to maker workshops, DJ sets, and more. Deadline for Design Proposals: Friday 28th June Midnight. We invite aspiring designers, curators, and architects to submit concept design proposals for the three spaces within Build Hollywood’s venue: The CarWash, The Platform, and The Sandbox. The goal is to reimagine these areas to host a series of cultural events this summer, produced by young contemporary cultural producers. Mentorship: A panel of esteemed industry judges and mentors, including Sanaa Shaikh (Director of Native studio), Nana Biamah-Ofosu (Director of YAA Projects), Manijeh Verghese (Director of Sphere Spaces), Je Ahn (Founding Director of Studio Weave), and Jonathan Hagos 🇵🇸 Hagos (Director of Freehaus Design), will shortlist five design concepts alongside and then provide mentorship to five shortlisted designers/design teams. This competition represents a remarkable opportunity for young designers to showcase their talents and establish themselves in the creative sector. Good luck to everyone applying! https://lnkd.in/gWvptNpT The London School of Architecture, University of East London, Ravensbourne University London, New City College Hackney, Tower Hamlets College, Mulberry College of Teaching.

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of visiting Ravensbourne University London and meeting Alberto Villanueva Galindo for a private tour of ‘Generation Rave’ as part of their degree show. Having worked with Alberto, Luke Murray and the wider team over the past 6 months, I have seen the dedication and commitment they make to connect students to industry opportunities, and I’m really pleased we were able to collaborate this year. Congratulations to all involved in the impressive showcase! Through our recent project at Beyond The Box CIC on the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre redevelopment plans, in partnership with the Greater London Authority, Hawkins\Brown Erect Architecture and Mott MacDonald, we collaborated with the talented students at Ravensbourne University to delve into public policy and frameworks that drive good design. We explored how access and inclusion are integral to the design process and how equity can be achieved through thoughtful design, ultimately demonstrating how social value and good community engagement can lead to meaningful social impact and ‘care’ - the theme for Ravensbourne's final degree show. Alberto surprised me with an award for ‘Collaborative Partner of the Year’ - which I have to say means a lot, especially working in an industry that very rarely values the work of engagement professionals! Thank you to everyone who made this collaboration possible. It’s inspiring to see the next generation of designers and architects committed to creating inclusive and impactful spaces. How can creativity drive the design of more equitable and inclusive spaces? On Friday at City Hall, our Equity Designers from the My Palace Programme hosted an inspiring presentation event. They showcased their innovative design interventions for upgrading the center. These aspiring architects spent six months collaborating with our sports leaders, gathering user insights to inform their proposals. The considered ideas presented show just how much engagement can drive design solutions and aid a more inclusive and accessible design proposal. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event and a huge congrats to the young designers. Stay tuned for our project film coming next week! We're are pleased to share the People's Pavilion Impact Report. Since its launch in 2020, the People’s Pavilion initiative has been a collaborative design and production project that has provided support to more than 250 young people. At Beyond the Box, we advocate for radical action to promote a more inclusive built environment and creative industry. We believe that actions speak louder than words, and that designing a more equitable world requires active participation. As a Community Interest Company, we are dedicated to investing in the people and communities we seek to serve. These numbers in this summary were not calculated using an impact measurement toolkit; they represent the direct investments we have made in this award-winning project. The project has created 45 paid jobs for architecture students and young cultural producers, investing £15,769. We have invested £27,010 in emerging practices and £10,500 to New Founders and their social enterprises. We have partnered with 91 organisations from the built environment and cultural sector, investing an additional £30,000 in the creative sector through commissions and collaborations. This project's success is a result of community effort, and this visual impact report aims to showcase the individuals behind these statistics. We express our gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey so far, and we are excited to explore how we can further enhance the People’s Pavilion in its upcoming third iteration.
