It's been a big week for us with our 2021 design suggestions for the WRU - Welsh Rugby Union crest popping up in the press NationCymru Cyf and now this weekend a glowing review in The Guardian for the film we co-produced with Radim Procházka and Barbara Janišová Feglová and directed by Tomas Kratochvil, describing the documentary as a 'nuanced gem' . It was very much a labour of love to create and it's such a thrill to be able to tell people that it's now available to view on TrueStory This is an important story about an issue which is often overlooked. You can catch the trailer in the review. Let us know what you think when you see it. #Roma #HumanRights #DocumentaryFilm https://lnkd.in/eUpcKXXs

Our creative producer draws attention in his post to a petition to change the crest of the Welsh Rugby team. Our team was tasked with creating some redesigns for YesCymru back in 2021 to kickstart some debate around the issue. It's good to see those for our client highlighted in the NationCymru Cyf article. It provoked a lot of comment at the time. Interesting to see the controversy erupting again. WRU - Welsh Rugby Union #designs #sportsshirts #campaigns https://lnkd.in/esGVm6Qy

‘The feathers have absolutely no connection with the last princes of Wales ... It is not an emblem that is embraced by everyone in Wales and supporters of Welsh rugby… this is as good a time as any for the WRU to reset and rebrand.’ Is the quote from Trystan Gruffydd in this week's NationCymru Cyf Trystan has started a petition for a rebrand of the WRU crest which has already reached 10,000 signatures. In 2021 our team at bak created some proposed redesigns for YesCymru which you can see in the article below. It's a controversial topic and many people feel a deep affinity to the existing iconic three feathers but nonetheless there is a generation of fans who are questioning the use of the existing crest and believe that it's time to change. What are your thoughts on any proposed change? What are the pros and cons of a redesign at this point where the WRU is still in quite a state of turbulence? Good thing? Bad thing? #WRU #Rugby #Cymru #Wales #Sport https://lnkd.in/eXJSwmvZ

We need to talk about dementia, it's causes and how we can tackle its impact. That's one of the reasons I'm really proud to be involved in organising this event in Wrexham alongside my colleagues bak . Friday 31st May 2024 at @TŷPawb, 11:30 am in collaboration with pioneering organisation @Looking_Back and Gŵyl Wal Goch Festival. Once again we've been asked to look after the design and communication strategy for the Gŵyl Wal Goch Festival for Football Lovers ⚽ . As we're both football lovers and fans we're trying to put to one side the absence of a Wales team at this year's UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany 😢 and focus on celebrating the game and that exciting intersection of the game with art, society and social change. Each year we've been challenged to create a new visual language and this year's no different. How many of these icons of the game can you recognise in the grid? Fingers crossed we'll be seeing some of you in Wrexham for this year's edition. Maybe we might even get to meet in Germany this summer. 😀 #morethanjustagame #football #Euro2024 #Cymru #Wales #branding #design

Our team are always on the lookout for a new craft beer so it was a bit sad to see this slate in the corner of a London pub. On first glance it's an RIP to the craft dream. Or is it? is it a testament to the success of craft beers in carving out a niche in an ultra competitive market and the need of major brewers to buy a little of that cool for their brand? The big brewers are always going to struggle to innovate and it makes sense for them to easily acquire new flavours and markets than do the hard yards themselves. The success of craft beers over a sustained period of time has helped redefine the market for beer, making beer palatable to new audiences, younger people, women, etc. As consumers we can instantly recognise a craft beer just by the label. But there maybe risks for these labels in losing their identity, tastes, flavours and sense of cool once absorbed by the majors. Can (craft) brewers maintain that success in a time of increasing of runaway inflation, soaring raw material costs and shifting consumer trends? We hope so! #beers #branding #brewing

Pop-up Meyhane by Istanbul Elsewhere are regular nights across London, including a boat on The Thames, and over the last six months the project has expanded to other European capitals, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Berlin. A key task for bak has been to let the world know that there is such a thing as a distinct, multicultural tradition in #Istanbul that embraces flavours and styles from many parts of Asia and Europe. Greek, Syrian, Kurdish, Arab, Armenian and all the countries of The Balkan peninsula have added to the cosmopolitan mix of Istanbul #culinary delights. The nights are busy affairs that are usually punctuated with lots of #Rakı. Many of the small dishes, mezzes, are vegan friendly. It's a world away from what you might think of as typical Turkish cooking that you find on a UK High Street. We hope we've gone someway to help our friends at Istanbul Elsewhere to awaken an international audience to the beauty of Istanbul cooking. Our creative producer Dave Evans shows his love for both Wales, The Balearic Islands and Catalan language and culture by lending his skills to this project celebrating the links between The Balearic Islands and Wales. Visca! #catalan #balearicislands #cymru #wales #stdavidsday

You may not know it but the people of the Balearic Islands (Eivissa, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera) share a day of national celebration with Wales. March 1st is when the people of the islands commemorate the signing of their Statute of Autonomy on 1st March 1983. What better day to release the vinyl, Cofio. DJ, performer and all round polymath Gareth Potter is the driving force behind this production which sees some of the biggest talents in Wales and The Balearics collaborate on this musical setting of Waldo Williams poem Cofio with words in Welsh, English and Catalan. Those of you who know me will be aware of my love of Catalan culture and language so it was an honour for Gareth to ask me to get involved alongside Rhys Ifans, Pep Tosar, Phil Cooper and Joan Bibiloni. Here's Gareth's article about the project https://lnkd.in/eMHCbMK4 #Wales #balearicislands #Cymraeg #catalan #vinyl

Last week our creative director, Memet Ali Alabora was the guest of PEN Cymru in London. For those of you who don't know PEN is an organisation that promotes literature and defends freedom of expression. It campaigns all around the world on behalf of writers around the world who are persecuted, imprisoned, harassed and attacked for what they have written. Memet was in conversation with Dylan Moore, talking freedom of expression, protest, resistance and the events that led him to make his home in the UK. This conversation couldn't happen at a more critical moment as concerns about the limits of protest in the UK are being openly voiced here in the UK, this was a chance to hear what happens when those rights are denied. For those of you who don't know him, here's a short intro to Memet and his story. It was an honour to have spent last week working with one of the UKs most active charities, Trussell Trust. In case you weren't aware already, TT is an organisation dedicated to eradicating hunger and fighting poverty in the UK. We were there to record inspiring stories from their organisers and campaigners the length and breadth of the country. It's sobering to realise the extent of their work and how much those two issues are widespread in all sectors of our communities. Here are some pics behind the scenes in Manchester. If you want to find out more, you can check Trussell Trust out here https://lnkd.in/gdt8WVC #TrussellTrust #endhunger #poverty #campaigns
