Business owners, look away now.
I've just been reviewing UK Home Office's annual Cyber Security Breaches Survey for 2024. The official proportion of UK firms that identified an attack and/or breach has suffered a huge jump this year. From 32% in 2023... to 50% in 2024. The figures really debunk the "won't happen to us" myth. Charity? 1/3 organisations targeted. Tiny business? Just under 50% targeted. Also in the study – a very low awareness of the most obvious starting point for cyber due diligence: #CyberEssentials, just 12% of people identified with the "most responsibility for cyber security" have heard of the scheme. The UK Gov-backed scheme is designed to help make sure British businesses have the basics covered. It's low cost to certify and comes with a level of Cyber Liability Insurance included. It should be a no-brainer for many. Drop me a line if you'd like to learn more.
