Atelier Ten is excited to announce that Mike Martinez has joined Atelier Ten's San Francisco leadership team as a Divisional Director! As a recognized leader in façade and daylight optimization, Mike has greatly expanded Atelier Ten's analytical capabilities and continues to push the industry toward meaningful conversations and decisions around sustainability and human experience. "I’ve been working with project teams to define a more expansive definition of 'performance' to include both quantitative and qualitative criteria for façade design. That’s not to diminish our analytical metrics, but it’s working to constantly contextualize and focus our efforts throughout the design process on the human experience. My great shading and minimized solar heat gain is meaningless if the resultant indoor environment is view-less, dark, and unoccupied in reality." - Mike Martinez, Director, San Francisco Read our full interview with Mike here: https://lnkd.in/g3Nzvc68 #promotion #announcement #facadeoptimization #daylighting

"Not only do the exposed soffits tell the story of the building, they also maximise floor-to-ceiling heights and provide an organising system for the exposed services, which in turn avoids the need for raised floors." - Check out The Concrete Centre: Concrete Quarterly Magazine's latest issue featuring an exclusive look into Space House! Space House is a refurbishment project of the iconic Grade II listed pair of buildings in Covent Garden that was originally built in 1968. Atelier Ten provided the benchmarking, building services and environmental design, energy analysis, fire engineering and lighting design. Happy Team Tuesday! Today we're spotlighting New York Associate and recent addition to Atelier Ten's Energy Practice, Emir Aykut Pekdemir. Expanding Atelier Ten's technical know-how, Emir leverages advanced building simulation tools to solve intricate building physics challenges encountered in complex designs. He works with project teams to analyze complex facades to determine short-term and long-term environmental and financial implications. Emir has expertise in dynamic energy and airflow modeling, hydrothermal modeling, daylight/glare simulations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), double-skin façade studies, dew point analysis for assessing condensation risk, and short-wave vs long-wave heat transfer modeling for thermal comfort studies Read more about Emir's capabilities at the link below and reach out if you're interested in leveraging his skills! https://lnkd.in/g-7sADie #facadeoptimization #energymodeling #buildingphysics #greenbuilding

This latest design of Central Park in Sydney’s emerging Bradfield City Centre honours Country, while celebrating new and old knowledge and the practice of deep care. The two-hectare park at the heart of the new city centre will be the welcoming point for visitors as they arrive from Bradfield Metro Station. Contained by a forested edge with a layered canopy and rich understory planting, the park comprises two clearings. The first is a civic space for gatherings and events, while the second is a nurturing and protected space which frames Sky Country and demonstrates care for water, sky and earth. Between these spaces are play and shelter areas which have been inspired by and co-designed with Dharug weavers, foregrounding Dharug knowledge and culture. The competition winning scheme was designed by ASPECT Studios in collaboration with architects Collins and Turner Architects, cultural consultant and Baramadagal woman of the Dharug Nation Jayne Christian, curatorial collaborator Emily McDaniel from the Wiradjuri Nation, artist Janet Laurence, structural engineers Eckersley O'Callaghan and lighting designer Steensen Varming. Other collaborators joined the team as the design developed. Atelier Ten are excited to have been a part of the team and are eager to share more of this crucial project as it takes shape. The project has just been placed on State Significant Development Application exhibition by NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

This past month, the Princeton University Residential Colleges received an AIA Architecture 2024 Award. Designed with TenBerke, the residences and site are deeply connected to nature. Our team embedded solar passive design elements into the buildings' orientations and massing to further connect students to the landscape and drive #energyeffiency. Operable windows in the residential spaces provide students with fresh air and views to the surrounding landscape. Impressively, over 95% of regularly occupied spaces meet the LEED quality views criteria. “It is crucial to think about ways we can support women more, and ask how can we make industry as inclusive as possible…It’s very brave to take time away from work with the intention of coming back, when it’s not always easy to do so. We don’t want people to fall off our radar” - Jessica Glynn, Associate and chair of the WiBSE: Women in Building Services Engineering (a CIBSE Network) panel was recently featured in CIBSE Journal! In light of International Women In Engineering Day, we celebrate all female engineers at Atelier Ten, and want to help make a change and a real impact in the industry.
