Aviation experiences for disabled and profoundly ill people, turning the dream of flying into an exhilarating reality!
About us
Aerobility enables disabled people of all ages to turn the dream of flight into an exhilarating and fulfilling reality. Our ethos of full inclusivity means we support people across the entire spectrum of disability, without exception – we know flying can provide a level of challenge and exhilaration difficult to find elsewhere. We also provide opportunities for disabled people to enjoy a wide range of aviation activities, from ground-based experience days, through to one-on-one training and instruction to secure a Private Pilot’s Licence. We own five specially-adapted aircraft and bespoke hoisting equipment, enabling us to make flight both accessible and safe. Our specially-trained flying instructors have built up a comprehensive knowledge on the challenges connecting disability and aviation, which is invaluable in the removing of barriers to participation. In 2016 we supported and provided services to almost 900 disabled people aged 7 to 92 – whatever the impairment, Aerobility have always found a way to get a someone into the pilot seat. Through our partnership with Help for Heroes, around a third of our beneficiaries are wounded, injured or sick (WIS) military personnel. Many cite flying with Aerobility not only as a turning point in their recovery, but also as an integral part of their rehabilitation. The positive impacts of engaging with Aerobility include: - Increased self-confidence, self-belief and independence. - Increased employability and improvements in academic studies. - Inspiring and empowering individuals to break through boundaries in all aspects of their lives. - Enhancements to well-being and social cohesion. - Positive change in an individuals’ long terms outlook on their disability. - Reduction in clinical episodes. - Personal accomplishment and pride. - The chance to do something amazing and experience a level of challenge, exhilaration and joy that it is difficult to find anywhere else!

Don't forget to tune in at 4pm today for the final episode of this year’s studio recordings of Inspire-Ability. In this episode Chrissie Miller takes us through her journey from graduating staff college through to taking the role she dreamed of when first starting out within the RAF. Although her experiences in this time challenged the preconceived ideas that she had about service life, Chrissie shares with Harriett her observations as a female in a senior leadership role in the RAF, when so often she found herself to be the only woman in the room. Chrissie also reflects on the progress that has been made in society, especially in Forces life, in comparison with her parents’ generation, and in this she firmly advocates for the flexible working policies that enabled her to remain in her position while raising a young family. From discussions around the menopause, to considering the traits that make a good leader or instructor, this enlightening conversation is the perfect note with which to end the second series of our Inspire-Ability podcast! We were so pleased to receive this heartfelt thank you from one of our flyers recently. Isobel Jones came for a flight with instructor Mike Owen and says that she hasn’t been able to stop talking about her flying experience since! And this is why we love what we do; providing people with the opportunity to do something they wouldn’t have thought possible! #Aerobility #FlyingExperience

The latest episode of Inspire-Ability will land at 4pm on Friday. In this second part of our conversation with Chrissie, she discusses the challenges she faced during the training for her role in the RAF. To help her overcome this, she shares with Harriett how she found “another little family” within the Air Force, especially in the extracurricular sporting opportunities it presented. Despite the stresses of her course, Chrissie was ultimately successful in graduating as an area radar operator at the first attempt, and what follows was an extremely impressive progression in the field, including a deployment to Afghanistan. In reflecting on her own advancement, she and Harriett discuss the importance of good leadership, and especially the importance of traits such as empathy in such roles. #VideoSeries #Inspireability #WomenInAviation
