Bahrain has become the 160th country to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. This makes it the second Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member to do so, after the United Arab Emirates. Estimates suggest that global acceptance and implementation of the Kigali Amendment could prevent around 80 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Happy World Refrigeration Day® incorporating World Heatpumps Day 2024! Celebrated globally every year on June 26th, World Refrigeration Day celebrates and highlights the people and cooling innovations that are contributing to a sustainable future. The theme this year is #TemperatureMatters, and focuses on the critical value that heating applications, as well as refrigeration technologies, have in regulating temperatures worldwide. Heat pumps are an increasingly important part of keeping the planet hospitable, and A-Gas’ reclaimed refrigerants are a great alternative to virgin products. We interviewed two team members who have been instrumental in developing A-Gas’ pump offering, asking them about how it all started, the difference heat pumps will make and how they fit into A-Gas’ vision. Effective refrigerant management could save the equivalent of 57 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions between 2020 and 2050. It is estimated that only 25 per cent of refrigerants in use are being recovered today. This presents a significant opportunity for Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM) to mitigate the release of refrigerants into the atmosphere and help reduce climate change.
